I just hung out with someone who thought I might be subtweeting them. I was totally surprised, did not even anticipate that interpretation
sometimes I consciously think "maybe [person] could interpret this as me subtweeting them but I don't mean it that way?" and this was not one of those times
... I wonder how many times this has happened?? if you ever wonder whether I'm subtweeting you, please feel free to ask. if this is a thing that happens with any regularity, that's gonna be very useful feedback

. @lkesteloot was just going through some old papers and found this, our very first date, 27 years ago today. He told me he had an extra ticket to go see the opening day of the new Star Wars movie, and I was afraid he might be joking, (I had tried very hard and unsuccessfully to procure one - trust me it was a big deal at the time 😂) so we met up a day early at Sneeha so he could give me the physical ticket. The next day we met at the theater :)
Here’s to the next 27 years of adventures together my love! Happy Anniversary 🥰

@Romy_Holland Romy you are asking random people on the internet to be reasonable

the number of people invoking cps every time they hear about a parenting choice that they wouldn’t make is really disturbing.
do you understand what claim you’re making when you say someone should have cps called on them? you’re saying that you believe their child would be better off ripped from the only home they’ve ever known and put in the care of strangers. moreover, you’re saying you believe the median foster parent is a better parent than their current parents.
you’re also saying you think we should dedicate state resources to carrying out this process. social workers already have caseloads too big to manage dealing with kids in homes with serious drug addiction, abuse, neglect and often fail to successfully intervene when it’s desperately needed.
you want these same social workers to spend time taking kids away from parents who leave them in a locked and air conditioned car for 2 minutes while they run into the store, or who watch them on the baby monitor while they catch up with the neighbors? really? if you were in charge of society this is what you’d do?

@Aella_Girl @LoisMcLatch also it would be great if people
just let other people wear what they wanted without judging or policing it
English

@LoisMcLatch at some point if grown women are wearing an outfit to much it really is just a thing grown women wear and not exclusive to little girls.

@lemonautzest the Bayesian Conspiracy podcast did an episode with the guy who gave the talk at LessOnline - Andrew Wilson:

@jenalden were there any notes from the talk? 👀
would love to spread this info, and also maybe start my own if the vibes are right.

Guess what? I've started a church!
1) I wish there was a way to get the things I used to like about church without the dogma or the superstition.
2) Making things is my spiritual practice.
3) It's easier than you think to start an actual church.

I keep saying "I" like I'm doing this on my own but I couldn't ever have gotten this far without my fellow Stewards of the church, @eneaszwrites and @profeshkitten. They heard my pitch, saw the vision, and both immediately said "let's do it!" They've put in so many hours to help get this thing off the ground, and I love them both so much♥️
Our goal is to set up a community to help people incorporate more creativity into their lives. Not in their non-existant free time, not 'someday' when they are retired, but now, today. More people making more things as a regular part of their real lives.
We had 80 people turn up to our first event and it was incredible. Turns out a lot of people want to make things - so many different kinds of things!

One of the best presents I've received: I told @lkesteloot that delivery people kept ringing the doorbell for the front gate while I'm in the bath. He's good with electronics and made me a little remote that opens the front gate from anywhere

I have been driven mad trying to find a suitable travel crib for my baby. the one everyone says to get is still the size of a backpack. this is not that small. I want something that easily fits in a suitcase. I was confused about why tf this doesn't exist and it turns out the answer is, of course, the government. the consumer product safety commission keeps making the regulations on cribs more and more stringent, effectively making it impossible to actually sell something compact.
one might think "okay but this is probably good, surely their regulations are important?" no! you are mistaken about how the government operates! the newest mandates say that cribs must have four freestanding legs and a raised sleep surface. this actually has nothing to do with the safety of a crib when used normally, and everything to do with making it impossible for parents to use the crib atop a bed.
couldn't you just tell people to only use the crib on the floor? yes! in a sane world, you could just sell products with instructions like this. in fact, in almost all instances this is what we do. my baby's bouncer is only supposed to be used on the floor. my car should only be operated by a sober, licensed adult with eyes.
but for some reason, the government will not let me buy a portable crib that would be 100% safe when used on the floor, which is undeniably the normal place to put a crib. ironically, a lot of parents were like "sure there are no portable cribs, that's why I just cosleep when I travel! or I just make a nest out of towels and put my baby in a drawer!" both of which are a lot more dangerous than a portable crib used on the floor.

@lkesteloot it’s funny that go has to get added back on to the end if you want to actually talk about going some where, “are you gonna go?”

@lkesteloot @dundereloise Shape. Undebatable. If you put mashed potatoes in your waffle maker, you’d call it a mashed potato waffle. If you put waffle ingredients into a pancake shape, you’d call it a pancake.
