@kmcannon Hmm. I think of Al Globus the #SpaceSettlement competition for school-aged youth he ran for many years (with his sister?) at Ames. I helped judge. :)

This is a key part of Al Globus' work, who re-vamped the O'Neill cylinder concept and got it down to ~100 m across. The other piece was work showing that people get accustomed to rotation speeds of >4 rpm, about double previously thought.

@kmcannon I think it's more complicated, @kmcannon - because the radiation dose will also depend on the solar activity. There was some new reporting about the uncrewed Orion capsule radiation exposure, too...

People on inclined orbits get almost their entire radiation dose from the South Atlantic Anomaly. If you put a station or habitat at zero inclination (equatorial low-Earth orbit), you can get away with basically no radiation shielding long term.
