…it’s permanently locked and I’ll never have access to 15+ years of info again. So to be clear your lousy security was too weak to keep hackers from hacking my account and changing security data, all before I woke up, but it’s strong enough to keep me from my own data forever?

Hi @Microsoft At 12:36am on 3/26, I got a notice of suspicious activity to my hotmail (incl OneDrive, where I store personal/business info). By 7:00am they’d removed my authentication email. Now support says bc the 2nd email was removed, the account can’t be recovered…

@CafaClaa This follows the authoritarian playbook perfectly. Erode confidence in democratic institutions and you create a power vacuum for the authoritarian to fill. And universities are soft targets bc they’re too seldom treated as foundational, indispensable democratic institutions.

#HigherEd: An increasing proportion of U.S. adults say they have little or no confidence in higher education. 36% have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence, 32% have some confidence, and 32% have little or no confidence in higher education. news.gallup.com/poll/646880/co…

@ijbailey I think you're absolutely right re process. Whatever's going on is a moving target. The Biden of the SOTU is not the Biden of Thursday night. And we can forgive both his family and the Democratic Party more generally for pushing forward based on the facts as they were months ago.

I will vote for Biden if he's the nominee because Trump is that dangerous. However, I will say the reporting on HOW Biden decided to stay in is extremely distressing. His family helped convince him to stay in. Let me explain why that's a god-awful-concerning process. 1/

Reminder: Joe Biden said his family never made money from China, that he never spoke to his son about his business dealings, and that there was a complete wall of separation. Yet he received payments from the very LLC receiving the dirty CCP money.

I'm really loving the cope going on here: "This bank record showing that Joe Biden received payments from his son's company that received millions of dollars in dirty Chinese money is no big deal because he used it to reimburse his Dad for a truck."

Impossible to overstate the bravery of scholars, students, and others telling the truth about their experiences under authoritarian rule in places like Venezuela and Nicaragua. #academicfreedom #cafa2023

@TheRealRynnstar @Rav_Mike @vegvampire13 You’re right. But no one with any political power is pushing the US to cede land. The ruling authority in Gaza’s #1 policy item is violently removing Jews from the land at issue. So when ppl cast their lot with that agenda, it’s a tad more worrying.

You live in a country that stole half a continent of native land, stole Black labor and lynched Black bodies, killed 225,000 civilians in Japan, killed 100,000 civilian Cambodians, killed 200,000 Iraqi civilians... and the moral stand you take is that ISRAEL shouldn't exist?

@ijbailey This is all so true and so important. The thing I think he leaves out is the degree to which the country is in a blind rage. This is not just historic trauma. It’s a deep, freshly opened wound. The desire for revenge is so inevitable. The need for moral leadership is so dire.

@EzraMoGee @yashar You’re not wrong about erasing their suffering. But it kind of changes the calculus of blame to know that while their people were suffering and their rage was growing, Hamas was building places like these.

@yashar I agree yashar. My point was to react to the implication that Gaza is a “concentration camp.” I note at the end there is enormous poverty and suffering. Thanks.

This thread erases the suffering of Gazans. There are nice places everywhere in the world. I can show you nice places in North Korea that the vast majority of North Koreans don’t have access to. Before October 7, well over 50 percent of Gazans were living in poverty. The food insecurity rate was 65%. 80% of youth were unemployed. Places that the wealthy and often the corrupt enjoy are not representative of what average people can enjoy. In his replies, Ezra asked about freedom of movement and mentioned the Rafah border. Do you mean the border that most Gazans aren’t allowed to cross? And even if they could, they wouldn’t have the money to travel? If you want to unite Gazans against Hamas, erasing their suffering does nothing to accomplish that.
Ezra Galston@EzraMoGee

Starting a thread for my normal friends who don't experience my feed. You've been completely scammed about "open air prisons" + concentration camps See below for what life was like in Gaza, starting with a luxury car dealership that opened Aug 2023 in Gaza City (h/t @imshin) 👇

Wanted to send a message to all my Iranian/Persian-Jewish followers. I know this time is particularly difficult as you watch the horrific aftermath of the Hamas attacks in Israel, especially since the Islamic Republic plays a major role in funding and training Hamas. All of this is taking place while you're also closed off from your home country of Iran and heartbroken by what's happening there. Not to mention, fearing for your family's safety due to antisemitism and the potential for Islamophobic attacks because of their Iranian heritage. I understand it must feel like an avalanche, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm here for you.

@ijbailey General point understood. But these are apples and oranges. The truth or falsehood of the beheading stories doesn’t impact the moral culpability the perpetrators. The question of who’s responsible for the hospital incident, on the other hand, should have a huge impact.

A test: How many people who were upset that the children beheading stories weren't instantly believed - despite lack of confirmation - and called the skepticism antisemitic, even, are now upset that media reported an unconfirmed claim about a supposed horrific Israeli act?
@ijbailey@ijbailey

Mainstream media must admit this immediately and be transparent about how it screwed up so royally no matter where the story leads: It was highly irresponsible to publish a story as important as the hospital one based on one source without credible-independent confirmation. 1/

@EricYoungArt @AoDespair Man, you're completely wrong on every point. Take the L. My legal expertise isn't scientific expertise; I have no scientific training, and if I claimed scientific "expertise" I'd get laughed out of court. RFK is just as unqualified to debate the science of vaccination.

@jesseplevine @AoDespair But you need to be able to read and understand scientific papers enough to know which experts to call as a witness, right? That's all I'm claiming, as a lawyer, RFK has expertise in understanding scientific information and build a case based on it.

@EricYoungArt @AoDespair No! I, like every other lawyer, would enlist an expert witness — someone in the relevant scientific community — to provide an expert opinion. My “investigation” of their research would have zero value in court.

@jesseplevine @AoDespair But you're qualifies to read, question and investigate peer reviewed research if it relates to a case, right? What do you do if you need to put a scientist on trial for fraud or anything else?
