When L Sivaramakrishnan was 14 an Indian player called him to clean his shoes. On his 17th birthday another Indian player said, ‘you have got a chocolate cake as dark as his skin colour’. Now at 60, LS opens up on his old wounds and battling depression. indianexpress.com/article/long-r…

At 8.45 am on March 19, my colleague @purnima_sah_ left me a message on whatsapp: "I'm on the way. Will reach by 9.45." She was headed to Belapur In Navi Mumbai chasing a hunch. 8 Indian seafarers had just returned after 16 harrowing days stranded in Oman, survivors of a missile attack in the West Asia war. She had been tracking them for weeks. That morning, she showed up at their guesthouse door not knowing if they would speak to her. 🧵(1/8)

@chess_insights Even if Gukesh doesn't kill it at the Olympiad, he will be facing one opponent over 14 games at the World Championships. Beating him once in a tournament is one thing. But facing him 14 times with the team Gukesh is likely to put behind him will be a mountain to climb for anyone.

On Thursday morning, every newspaper, including @IndianExpress, carried the news of question papers being stolen before the Maharashtra Class 10 Geography board exam. But that news also carried a STARTLING line: NO change in exam schedule. The Board was going ahead. That got us wondering. 🧵 (1/10)

I know that alone, I may not be able to change anything. But regardless of whether I play in the Candidates or not, I felt it was important to express what I genuinely feel. I’m truly grateful to everyone who has shown their support. . For those who cannot understand the sensitivity of this situation, I choose to leave it at that. worldchess.com/news/candidate…

What Koneru Humpy saying here is making a lot of sense, and honestly, shocked that FIDE is going ahead with the Candidates in Cyprus. Absolutely ridiculous if it is not reconsidered. Story by @jestalt indianexpress.com/article/sports…

@anandvasu @ramkid Not just past players, those who came after too. Remember him approaching Dhoni to sign his shirt in IPL 2023 at Chepauk.

You can say anything you want about Sunil Gavaskar but there is no better example of someone respecting the past in cricket, the players who paved the way and turning up for them. He does this consistently and with so much genuine feeling. This is another thing we may have lost with the march of time and the progress Indian cricket has made on other fronts.

A great opportunity to interview chess legend Judit Polgar, who spoke about all things chess. Just could not restrict it to one piece. Here's the first one Judit Polgar on new documentary on her life, mutual respect with Kasparov and more indianexpress.com/article/sports…

There has been a lot of misinformation about what happened at the Sinquefield Cup and the events that followed. Because of the upcoming Netflix documentary, there were limits to what I could publicly say until now. With the documentary about to be released, it’s time to set the record straight. Over the past couple of years, Joe Rogan and others have discussed the situation many times, often without a clear understanding of what actually happened. Given how extensively Rogan has talked about it, I believe it’s especially important that I have the opportunity to go on his podcast and address it directly. I’m planning on going on a podcast tour to make sure the truth reaches the world. Please share this, and feel free to recommend podcasts you think I should go on.

“The next Judit Polgar should come from India.” Chess legend Judit Polgár says India’s talent pipeline is now too deep. Praises Divya Deshmukh for choosing to battle in open tournaments against men rather than staying in women-only events. Calls her a “great fighter” with the mindset to challenge the best. Polgar points to India’s massive grassroots ecosystem and constant competition as the reason a generational female player can emerge from here. Polgar adds that when a country produces relentless competition and fearless young players, breakthroughs become inevitable. via @IndianExpress
