In "Convivir, a Synonym for Commune?" my latest on @JournalSpectre, I wrote about @tracyrosenthal_ & Leonardo Vilchis's Abolish Rent & Kristin Ross's The Commune Form, starting from a revived communist theme via @atun_rsia, the abolition of the separation of town and country.

Scab unions in Bolivia, who initially opposed the general strike against neoliberalism, are now joining it. They say that they've realised that the only way to end the strike is for the strike to win.

@OaklandAboSol Yes, this is true that that have been ongoing. My thought is that when the movements outside were happening in a big way, those inside were in the background, but that now they may move toward the foreground.

@jfpark3 These hunger strikes and acts of resistance inside were constant. It's undetermined if inside activity is actually increased right now. We suspect it is both - outside attention shifting as well as a shift by those inside applying themselves to their continued detention.

I have a new piece out Reflecting on 20 years of struggles, it goes into what abolish ICE does - and doesn't - mean; merging of immigration enforcement with policing & military power; how fascism is made through bordering; and what the border even is bostonreview.net/articles/how-n…

@PennyGongo @kayrosso1 The fact it's Mao is for this purpose almost beside the point. On Contradiction has its problems, but as far as short, readable intros to dialectics go, I think it's decent. But I said "eg" for a reason, any short, readable intro to dialectics would do. What would you recommend?

The general strike + barricades blocking highways has paralyzed the government. If sustained, the neoliberal govt will collapse and it'll show the rest of the region how to overthrow their own US puppet regimes that impoverish them. US wants to crush this idea.

@xirsigdsn @susanhecht @FungibleWorker I was going to say a similar thing, which is to organize much of your reading and thinking around definable research projects, which may often be writing projects. It can be easy to just got lost in the sea of potential things to read, and a project keeps that focused.

Now that I’m three days out from being done with grad school (fr fr this time, no more extensions), my only real advice is: whenever you read anything, immediately write a 500 word summary of its argument with points about what you thought was useful.

@xirsigdsn @FungibleWorker By making an outline of the piece yourself, you can often get a better grasp on an overall argument / narrative that can sometimes be hard to follow while reading. And by seeing how other writers structure their work you can get ideas for how to do it yourself.

@xirsigdsn @FungibleWorker One of the most effective reading and writing tricks I have learned (besides practicing summary) revolves around trying to understand the structure of a piece of writing, esp by a writer that I admire. A useful trick can be making a "reverse outline" of the work.
