There's a lot of confusion out there, including with Trump, that the US has lots of oil to sell to the world. We do not. We're a net importer of crude (~+3 Mb/d). The EIA reports that fact in great detail every week. The confusion stems from using the term "petroleum exports" which includes the bodacious amounts of natural gas liquids (NGL) that come from our wet gas plays. That stuff isn't "oil" and it is exported because it's wildly overproduced compared to our needs. Yes, the US is a net exporter of "petroleum," but it's also a net IMPORTER of crude oil. In other words, the US has none to sell. There's more complexity to why we export 3M b/d of crude (it's the wrong kind for our refineries) and also import 6.4 M b/d of crude (which is the right kind).

BREAKING: US Navy will not open the Strait of Hormuz Trump gives nations who import oil from the Middle East three options: 1) Buy your oil from US and Venezuela instead 2) Secure the Strait themselves with limited US support Or 3) Wait for Hormuz to reopen naturally

The first time I heard the name "Homer Sarasohn," it was an ex-@Apple engineer telling me there should bronze statues of the guy in Apple Park, Cupertino. "These ideas didn't come out of nowhere," the source said, when I asked about Apple's supply chain strategy. "It all goes back to what Homer taught in occupied Japan." "Sorry, who?" I asked. I was intrigued but entirely baffled. Occupied Japan? All I really learned in that conversation was the spelling of his name. I had told the source I was researching a feature on how Apple manufactures its products. He wished me well but said he wouldn't help. All he said was that Apple's supply chain strategy was important, ill-understood, and wildly counterintuitive. And that the key was this 29-year old engineer summoned to war-devastated Tokyo in 1946. Finally, nearly three years later, I've written a double-feature for the @FinancialTimes telling Homer's story, connecting it with why a struggling Steve Jobs discovered the value of "process" in 1990, and then how these ideas helped shape Apple's supply chain strategy in the decade now remembered as the greatest corporate turnaround ever. Why wasn't this in *Apple in China*, you might ask? Well, in my book pitch, I wanted it to be the opening chapter. But, structurally, that was difficult to pull off, and I worried that spending a few precious weeks studying 1940s Japan was a bad way to spend my book leave. Once the book was published I kept reading the few obscure articles about Homer. I even got to check out the Library of Congress archives, which has the Japanese textbook he wrote for top corporate executives, black & white photos of Homer in Japan, and much else. Then, two months ago, I realized Apple's 50th anniversary was probably the last chance I'd get. I wasn't sure anyone else would care, but the feedback has been great -- and part two really packs some oomph. I'm thrilled to have it published. Hope you enjoy! as.ft.com/r/9695f3b7-53f… as.ft.com/r/cc78ee1d-6ec…

The Worst War Speech in American History. He Announced That Himself. Before the cameras rolled, Trump told reporters what to expect: “Tonight, I’m making a little speech at 9 o’clock. And basically I’m gonna tell everybody how great I am.” He delivered. Nineteen minutes. First wartime address to the nation. What serious people said afterward Chuck Schumer asked whether there had “ever been a more rambling, disjointed, and pathetic presidential war speech” in history. “Donald Trump’s actions in Iran will be considered one of the greatest policy blunders in the history of our country,” he wrote. Trump is “completely unfit to be Commander-in-Chief and the whole world knows it.” Senator Mark Warner said Trump had offered “a moving target of justifications for this war of choice, none matched by the serious planning required to manage its predictable consequences.” Senator Blumenthal said it “failed to meet the moment” and that Trump offered “magical thinking but no real plan.” Senator Chris Coons kept it surgical: “No clear plan. Rambling, unmoored, unserious.” Representative Yassamin Ansari, Iranian American, on Trump’s promise to send Iran back to the Stone Age: “He’s talking about a country of 90 million people. Vile, horrifying, evil.” Even Ann Coulter was not clapping. She posted a screenshot of surging oil futures the moment the speech ended, with the caption: “Trump’s magnificent speech got results! Way to go, Mr. President!” From the markets: Russel Chesler, head of investments at VanEck Australia: “The markets are certainly not interpreting the speech as positive. If he was trying to inspire confidence, he has not done that.” Stock futures dropped the moment Trump finished. The Dow slid over 260 points. Oil surged. His approval rating as Commander-in-Chief: 33%. Down eight points since January. If I had a child in the US military today, I would chain them to the radiator. Not metaphorically. With an actual chain. Because no parent in their right mind sends their kid to die for a man who previewed his own wartime address by announcing he planned to spend it praising himself. He was not wrong about that.

Acordo ignorado esvazia projetos a longo prazo. Ratinho ajudaria Flávio no segundo turno. Veio a ruptura. “É do jogo”.
