@GrayConnolly Exactly right. Nations have borders. Controlling and securing a border is arguably the most fundamental role of a national government. If that duty is conferred to unelected people then our system isn't a democracy, nor a dictatorship, but something far more sneaky & perverse.

One of the worst ideas to take root since the 1970s is the idea of the mythical "independent body" as if it is not also captive of group-think & usual suspects. The lay Minister administers & is responsible to Parliaments we elect. There is no point to our system otherwise.
