Special education funding in my board has been cut by 30%. My school can no longer run our program for medically complex students that we launched just this year. It’s unclear what, if any, school these students will be able to attend in September.

@Noellenarwhal @PaulCalandra Hey, now. Those teachers need to stop being so greedy.. Their sanity and the well being of children is NOTHING compared to the DESPERATE need of Toronto real estate developers who can't sell their condos!

So I've heard a "rumour" that under @PaulCalandra the TDSB will be cutting ESL, Special Ed, and increasing class sizes, but teachers were threatened with punishment if they talked about it. WTF is this government doing to education?? Care to comment, Paul?

@ESL_fairy It’s in response to the HWDSB’s guidelines they issued for grad last year.

1) I have never been to a “political” graduation ceremony, and the focus is always on the students and their accomplishments. 2) Educators abide by the Education Act and are already held to a high standard of professionalism. I feel like I’m missing some context here.

The Minister of Education has released a letter to all "Educators and School Board Staff" - he said about 2 "serious and pressing matters" 1) He seems concerned about graduations becoming "political events" which is a "real risk to student wellbeing" - he will use "every tool available" 2) He wants to remind staff that they're to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards. Social Media is not to be used to "promote violence" or for "racist commentary, stereotyping, or inappropriate or derogatory language" Some interesting statements here. With workers across Canada under attack from President Trump’s tariffs, Team Canada needs to pull together to protect their jobs. This week, I wrote to Premier Legault and Premier Eby, asking them to drop their provincial EV mandates so we can keep Canada’s auto sector competitive and stops jobs and investment from heading south of the border.

Teachers have simultaneously: A) been stripped of the ability to do anything about poorly behaved students B) been pressured to pass students no matter what C) been tasks with taking on more and more responsibilities that used to belong to parents D) been vilified and blamed for every problem in society. So…why the job dissatisfaction? It’s a mystery!

"The government’s own commissioned audits found that, instead of mismanagement, these boards were grappling with funding shortfalls in areas like special education, statutory benefits and teacher sick leave." hmm, any guesses who caused the funding shortfalls, @PaulCalandra? 🤔

Ontarians need to come together and demand transparency. The courts ruled that Doug Ford’s phone records should be released. Instead of respecting that ruling, his government is now trying to weaken Freedom of Information laws. Why? Our public healthcare system is struggling. Our public education system is struggling. Hospitals are overcrowded, schools are underfunded, and frontline workers are stretched to the limit. Yet somehow this government always finds billions for projects like the Therme spa at Ontario Place, a massive new Toronto convention centre, and the relocation of the Science Centre a move many experts said wasn’t necessary. These are OUR tax dollars. Ontarians have a right to know what deals are being made behind closed doors and who is benefiting from them. Release the phone records.
