@amuse @RepDonBacon Under the Trump administration, new large-scale supplemental aid packages have stopped. The last major one was the ~$61 billion package passed in April 2024. In 2025, total US assistance dropped to around 390B For fiscal year 2026, only about $220 million has been allocated.

I'm sad to learn that Antonio Pascariello recently passed away. Pascariello was a great Neapolitan tailor who made softly constructed suits and sport coats with razor-sharp lapels and slightly sweeping quarters. More importantly, he was one of the best teachers in the region, if not the industry. For decades, he took in apprentices, often international students from East Asia, and taught them the craft of bespoke tailoring. In fact, if you see a particularly talented bespoke tailor in East Asia today, there's a good chance they apprenticed under Pascariello. His former students include Noriyuki Ueki (Sartoria Ciccio), Jeon Byeong-ha (Sartoria Jun), and Nario Sasaki (Sartoria Tramonto). I recently had dinner with Jeon and another tailor. When a slightly controversial tailoring topic came up, Jeon gave an answer that I thought contained a very Italian perspective. In this way, Pascariello lives on through the lessons he taught his students. In the last year, we've lost Mariano Rubinacci, Antonio Panico, and now Antonio Pascariello. There are still a lot of talented people in this industry, but increasingly fewer people who have a personal connection to that mid-20th century period when men wore tailoring best.

@nedryun US - Mohammad Mosaddegh, the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, was removed from power in August 1953. The coup, known as Operation Ajax, was engineered by (MI6) and (CIA) to restore the power of Shah Pahlavi, to regain control over Iran's nationalized oil industry.

@BBCWorld FWIW: Iran does not currently nor can it ever control the Strait of Hormuz. Iran doesn’t have the capability to maintain operational control of the strait. The best it can due is create an ongoing risk of terror attacks against defenseless commercial ships.

@matthewmaddock Michigan requires all registered vehicles to carry no-fault auto insurance (MCL 500.3101 and related sections). Driving (or allowing a vehicle to be driven) without the required insurance coverage is still a misdemeanor under MCL 500.3102(2).

Kushner told Trump to go for full Covid lockdowns. Kushner told Trump to continue to allow the destruction of Gaza so he could win property contracts rebuilding it. Kushner told Trump to attack Iran. This is the real power behind the throne.

🦔 Oracle is reportedly cutting 20,000-30,000 jobs to fund AI data center expansion after US banks pulled back from financing the buildout. TD Cowen estimates the layoffs would free up $8-10 billion in cash flow. The company needs $156 billion in capital expenditures to meet its data center commitments, including projects for OpenAI. Oracle is also considering selling Cerner, the healthcare software unit it bought for $28 billion in 2022, and exploring a "bring your own chip" arrangement where customers supply their own hardware. My Take Oracle made massive commitments during the AI boom, banks got cold feet, and now workers are funding the difference with their jobs. Tens of thousands of people cut so the company can keep building infrastructure that won't generate returns for years, if ever. The "bring your own chip" idea is Oracle telling customers they promised data center capacity but can't afford to build it, so customers should bring their own GPUs instead. I've written about similar situations before with other companies. The AI buildout requires real money now for theoretical returns later, and when the financing gets tight, the workforce absorbs the hit. Oracle is betting that the data center demand materializes and justifies all of this. Maybe it does. But if it doesn't, Ellison isn't the one who lost his job over it. Hedgie🤗

UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE. According to nuclear experts, Trump's justification for going to war with Iran was all a LIE perpetuated by Jared Kushner: Nuclear experts are calling out lies by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff regarding Iran's research reactor, stating the facility lacked the capabilities they described. Experts indicated that the Tehran Research Reactor, a 60-year-old facility, was not designed to enrich uranium, as was suggested by Kushner and Witkoff.

Part of the reason the USD is the reserve currency, and about 70% of paper dollars are held outside the United States, is that we never cancel our currency. The euro is routinely cancelled.
