One year ago, when I first stood on the steps of the Magistrates’ Court surrounded by cameras, I said this case would become a platform to expose Zionism and the realities surrounding it. Today, that is exactly what has happened. In open court, under oath and on the public record, discussions were heard about the history of Zionism, political violence, terrorism, the broader geopolitical context of Palestine, and the distinction between legitimate political debate designed to silence dissent. The same system that tried to criminalise political speech has now been forced to examine the very ideology and historical context they wanted quarantined from public discussion. For over a year, I have faced prosecution, media attacks, censorship, threats, financial destruction, and relentless pressure simply for speaking passionately about Palestine and opposing injustice. Yet despite all of that, we did not bow down. This was never just about me. This was always about protecting the right to speak, protest, resist intimidation, and stand for oppressed people without fear. Win, lose, or draw, history will remember who stood firm when it mattered most. Palestine will never be silenced.

A system of religious supremacy that allows one group from all over the world—from every race, colour, ethnicity, and nationality—to steal Palestinian land. Based on scripture. Based on a 'spiritual covenant' with their own god. This remains the justification for the existence of 'israel' today. Religious scriptures used as a land deed. Palestinian Muslims and Christians have been discriminated against, bombed, terrorised, raped, murdered, and trapped behind apartheid walls and military fences — for following the 'wrong' religion. 78 years ago, the Nakba happened. The Catastrophe. And it never ended. We commemorate it every year on May 15. Not only to grieve. But to remind and reassert that this grave injustice will never be accepted. That Palestinians have not given up their right to every inch of their native homeland. While the pro‑'israel' lobbies push nations to fund this criminal project with taxpayer money. While they attack your free speech and protests. While they lobby to have you labelled as 'terrorists' in your own nations for opposing 'israel'. Remember: Palestinians are on the front line. Labour Together relaunched this week with a new name, “Think Labour”, but the same company number. Companies House reveals that Labour Together Ltd continues to operate. Directors include Jonathan Kestenbaum, the ex-IDF soldier who donated to Starmer’s 2020 leadership campaign.

Simons may be giving up his seat for Burnham as a way of seeking “redemption” for his actions at Labour Together. Or, he could be trying to avoid the fall-out from recently released Subject Access Requests. In one redacted e-mail, Simons wrote: “I f***ing hate Jeremy Corbyn.”

Before the 2024 general election, Simons said that he was “honoured to be selected” as the candidate for Makerfield, but no selection process took place. Then deputy mayor of Wigan Jenny Bullen said: “Makerfield constituents want a local candidate…Nothing else to say, bye bye.”

Simons has previously mentioned having “friends and family in Israel”, a state with compulsory military service. In a parliamentary debate with Conservative MP Kit Malthouse last June, he asserted his “right to claim citizenship in Israel”.

At the 2024 conference of the Jewish Labour Movement, Simons spoke alongside former Israeli spy Assaf Kaplan at an event that promised to teach the audience “how to run a good campaign”. Kaplan served in Unit 8200, an Israeli military intelligence outfit, before joining Labour.
