#rstats My hot take on {glue}: The package is great to treat user input, but I think code shouldn't be stored in strings when we can avoid it. Use glue directly on unprocessed user input, and everywhere elsewhere.

@MTired61 @ZachLowe_NBA The players were older (youngest was Kareem) and the teams trading the best player got younger players in return, or financial relief. They also all asked to be traded. In this one the Mavs traded young for old and traded away the better player, completely nonsensical

@ZachLowe_NBA Wilt Chamberlain got traded. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar got traded. Shaquille O’Neal got traded. I’m betting those were just as “shocking” trades back in the day as this one was. I wasn’t shocked by this move. Surprised, but not shocked.

@owenlhjphillips From how tight the espn box plot is it seems pretty clear espn games start the most consistently. Seems pretty calculated for when espn wants them to start, not when they are actually listed to start.

I looked up the difference between when every NBA game was scheduled to start and when they actually started ESPN games take longer to start than any other broadcast by far

@KaushikRam25 @Olly_Tennis_ His draw for the US open was potentially T. Paul, Medvedev, Alcaraz, Djokovic. Didn’t end up being as bad because the last two lost in earlier rounds, but potentially having to beat 3 U.S. open winners in a row is about as hard of a draw as it gets.

@jcmoravec This is true, but it won’t install any package dependencies, so not a perfect solution.

#rstats TIL: You can install packages with base R directly from github. Issue: github allows you to get only the zip, which is not allowed format for pkg source on Linux. But github API can generate tarball as well! `install.packages("github.com/J-Moravec/mpd/…", repos = NULL)`

Lintr has since had 98! 🤯 contributors, and @michael_chirico and @patilindrajeets are currently driving most of the development 🙏 It was truly a success and I hope it has helped the #rstats community in the last 10 years.

And on Oct. 17th is really starting looking more like the package like it is today. Including using the AST (Abstract Syntax tree) to define linters rather than just relying on regular expressions. github.com/r-lib/lintr/co…

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of my first lintr commit (github.com/r-lib/lintr/co…) Hard to believe it was 10 years ago Apparently originally I called it styleR, long before the current styler package came into being 😄

@JosiahParry You may want to just bump the version and resubmit. They are unlikely to respond to email in a timely manner.

@BrainGameTennis So as a player you don’t really want to hit the second serve slower than the first, but instead adjust your technique and racquet path to hit more topspin / kick on second serves. But also agree players should hit more 1st serves as seconds from time to time

@BrainGameTennis Rather than speed of the ball speed of the racquet would be a more useful metric to see. I think what you would find is the racquet is going as fast or even faster on second serves as on firsts, but that racquet speed is being converted to spin rather than mainly ball speed

@frankiethull I am sorry you missed out when the R community was really thriving on here, it was sooooooo much better than it is today :( Unfortunately it seems it has not re-coalesced anywhere else either

I joined Twitter in 2022 to connect with other R programmers. A few months later, ownership transferred and I watched a mass exodus. 😭 But I hear there's no R community here? Not true. A good place to start looking:

dev rel circa September 2000 there's an entire generation of devs who have never seen Steve Ballmer sweating through his dress shirt during a Microsoft keynote screaming "developers". let's fix that. also if you've seen it here's the full video with context.

@jmcphers @RuthMBuchanan @BrandSanderson I read that one, enjoyed it! Brandon Sanderson’s creative magic systems are some of my favorite parts of his writing, and this was no exception. I also appreciated the more lighthearted tone as well
