@AdamAzor For the love of God... Leeds didn't break any rules because the rules hadn't been created yet. The rules were put in place once Leeds did Spygate 1.0
Leeds 200k fine #Saintsfc 200m+ fine and -4 points. This is obviously disproportionate. However while it’s a ridiculous decision & should have the penalty reversed by appeal . I don’t see this happening.
@Danfudge Had the EFL not given them this punishment it would say to everyone else, it's ok to do this. Now teams are far less likely to send someone to drive 5hrs up the country to stand behind a tree whilst trying to get whatever bit of information they can from a training session
Southampton kicked out of the Playoff final.
This seems unreasonably harsh
Four point deduction as well
For bloke with a phone watching some lads run around some cones
I agree there needs to ramifications, seems disproportionately over the top
#EFL
@HoltChris No I don't think it is. I think it's fair. The EFL had to be seen to send out a message that this won't be tolerated. For once they've actually done the right thing. I feel for the fans and they should be compensated by the club.
@woodwardio79@SouthamptonFC@EFL They've been given a punishment that not only is suitable but it also sends a message out to any other teams that want to try and cheat. Well done the EFL, for once.
What an absolute farce. Feel terribly for the @SouthamptonFC fans. Chucked out of a 300m final for a guy behind a tree on his iPhone.
When the same thing happened to us we used it as fuel. Boro had 180 mins to beat them. The @EFL is a joke. 🐏 #dcfc#sfc
@reluctantnicko Cheating is still cheating regardless of whether you win or not. If you try and gain an advantage by underhanded tactics you deserve what is coming to you. Just like spending beyond your means.
@FBAwayDays The club should offer refunds out to fans who can't get their money back for anything associated with the final. If they didn't expel them then it would have open the floodgates for everyone to start doing it. EFL have dished out a proper punishment which will stop others
Regardless of whether Southampton have done wrong or not, how can they expel them so close to the game?
Fans will have spent money booking trains, tickets and hotels. You really do have to feel for them. 🤯🫣
An Independent Disciplinary Commission has today expelled Southampton from the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs after the Club admitted to multiple breaches of EFL Regulations related to the unauthorised filming of other Clubs’ training.
In addition, the Club has received a four-point deduction that will be applied to the 2026/27 Championship table.
The effect of today’s order is that Middlesbrough are reinstated into the 2026 Play-Offs and will proceed to the Play-Off Final against Hull City. The final remains scheduled for Saturday 23 May, with the kick-off time to be confirmed.

@1980sSportsBlog I'd genuinely like to see what Pep could do without as much financial backing as he's had. Let's see if his style of play works with players he's had to bring in on a free or players on an emergency loan.
Ha ha. Just seen Pep described as a genius on the BBC website.
A genius is a manager and his assistant taking a club in the second division, gaining promotion, winning the championship, plus two League Cups and two European Cups in the space of five years.
