@J0BravesBoomer @grantmcauley Could be a lot of reasons why he wasn’t claimed. Teams would have to take his salary so maybe they wanted to wait until he was a free agent to negotiate a lower deal. Or maybe someone has their eye on him but doesn’t have the roster space yet. He’ll end up back in the majors soon

@smith22187 @grantmcauley Because Suarez is a reliever and Perez isn’t. The 5th spot in the rotation isn’t coming up again until next Tuesday (they’re off on Thursday, and pitching Sale on normal rest on Friday), so they wanted more bullpen depth in the meantime

@Georgia_clay21 @mlbbowman The answer is simply he has no spot on the roster. They wouldn’t have started him this week, and next week they want to try out one of the prospects in the rotation. Perez was the 5th starter, isn’t a reliever, and has no MiLB options, unfortunately there’s just no spot for him

@mlbbowman Whats your read on this? Feels like Perez pitched pretty well when given the opportunity. sure the underlying numbers probably didn’t blow away the FO, but seems kind of odd to cast him out entirely. Surely he would be better than the Suarez/munoz parade they have now?

Martin Perez cleared waivers and elected free agency. If he ends up signing elsewhere, Fuentes or Ritchie could start against the Nats next Tuesday (April 21). That's the next time the Braves would need a fifth starter
