The NFL’s long-FG environment has completely changed. Made 55+ yard FGs by NFL season Regular season + playoffs 2000: 1 2001: 3 2002: 2 2003: 4 2004: 3 2005: 5 2006: 3 2007: 4 2008: 8 2009: 6 2010: 11 2011: 13 2012: 17 2013: 12 2014: 15 2015: 14 2016: 15 2017: 26 2018: 27 2019: 16 2020: 26 2021: 28 2022: 49 2023: 46 2024: 55 — K-ball process changed — 2025: 74 TrackMan research suggests the new K-ball process is increasing max kick distance by roughly 4–6 yards. That changes what “field goal range” means. It also dramatically changes end-of-half and end-of-game strategy.
