Lost my best friend yesterday and it hurts so bad so excuse my ramble Like so many, my love of sports came from my dad since I could barely talk. He lived for his kids. I was so blessed he paid for all of my schools and yet he was still all in when I decided to leave my career to help start action. He listened to every single one of my podcasts and always needed to know what I bet so he could follow along. He was a huge Duke basketball fan and I loved rooting against his teams for some reason aka he would give me 20 bucks every time they lost which didn’t happen often in the 90s (I will never have a higher ROI since I never had to pay). He was under the basket when Laettner hit his famous shot at the spectrum. I was only 6 so don’t remember but I apparently cried and didn’t talk to him for 2 weeks. Fast forward 25 years when I married a UK girl and he never stopped joking I only did it to get him back for that Laettner shot. Man beat cancer twice but the third time was too much. He didn’t have the heart to tell us the third time it spread everywhere but he at least went peacefully. Football and college basketball weekends will never be the same without being able to call him but I’m so happy G Jr. got to meet the G the 4th even though I’ll be perpetually sad he won’t get to watch him grow up. Love you forever pop

@victorcook7 @Endzone51 Whatever a guy’s best plays are, if they’re not on the highlight reel an assistant coach prepares for his HC, then it’s a faulty highlight reel.

@Endzone51 @MattFtheOracle If a WR beats his coverage by 10 yards and doesn't get the ball is that going to make a highlight tape? If a RB gets hit behind the line of scrimmage and breaks 2 to 3 tackles and makes it 5 yards does that make a highlight? No it doesn't.

I know that this feels dunkable, but I actually get it. He wants to see guys at their best. If he doesn’t like a guy at his best, then what’s the point of continuing to evaluate him?

@victorcook7 The highlight reel is curated by the coaches to isolate his best plays. A coach should be able to see what a player does well at his best in a curated reel of plays.

@MattFtheOracle Ummm well because in football scheme, play calling, QB play O line is everything, a player can be the best in the world and you would never know because they cant do nothing without those things so why would he have a good highlight reel......this is silly.

@NotFakeFantasy It feels dunkable because it feels shoddy, and also it opens the 49ers up to the idea that they’re not fully evaluating players, which could help explain their drafting record. I don’t think those things, but I can see how people would interpret Shanahan’s process negatively.

@MattFtheOracle I’ve sat in the college football tape rooms. Coaches only watch highlight reels before they watch the All play cut ups. Why is this dunkable? Are we assuming other HCs are watching college film mid-NFL season?
