@shervin I don’t agree with the policy but you are overreacting. It will not kill the American Dream.

Kamala Harris and Biden want to increase capital gains from 25% to 44.6%. Plus they want a 25% tax on unrealized gains. This would be devastating to the innovation economy. People, many with little to no liquidity, would have to pay a 25% tax on private company shares. Many times these are phantom gains based on illiquid shares people can’t sell. So Harris wants to tax phantom gains. The Democrats have lost their minds. Democrats have fully embraced becoming populist-socialist-leftists; all to cynically to gain votes and power in the popular vote. This will destroy the American Dream. The engine for economic growth and wealth creation for all would be wiped out. These Democratic politicians today are a threat to the American way of life.

JUST IN: 🇺🇸 Kamala Harris backs President Biden's 44.6% capital gains tax proposal, the highest in history. The proposal also includes a 25% tax on unrealized gains for high-net-worth individuals.

AI is going to replace a lot of sales reps. Not all, but a lot. It's going to happen fast. Like within 3 years, IMO. Transactional folks will need to level up and promote into high-enterprise/strategic or they'll need to switch to an industry that's slower to adopt new tech.

@DrBiden I am proud of Joe too. He is a great a man, but you have to know that continuing his campaign is not what is best for him or the country. Please convince him to pass the torch to another candidate 🙏

@samfjacobs It’s ridiculously low but it’s been the reality for at least 10 years now. I initially heard this statistic when I accepted my first VP Sales gig in 2014. I think it was 19 months then so only slightly “better” than the current state.

@FlorinTatulea @collincadmus I agree with you 100% but I would be surprised if anyone is getting away with this approach in the current investment climate. That being said, if they do, shame on the investor for not knowing better.

Unpopular opinion for founders and vp of sales: Your waterfall math to get to a certain ARR or pipeline target in order to raise your next round is almost never based in reality. If nobody on your sales team is hitting target it’s your fault. Your quotas should be tough but not impossible. There should be an outlier that can probability hit 300-400% Most between 80-100% And a few that won’t hit ever. I’ve seen SDR quotas at 20 qualified meetings a month, in industries where SDRs average 8-10. Having your whole team at 40% quota is not helping anybody, including your efforts to raise your next round. Please listen to your frontline managers, they are the ones that live in reality on the front line. #sales

@gaetano_nyc Don’t forget about the tax implications if you decide to exercise the options. You will still pay next year as if there was a liquidity event. Sucks.

Does advising startups in exchange for equity “work out” — well, here’s what happened to me recently. The terms were stock options with a two vesting period in exchange for marketing consulting. Finally, a “triggering event” happened (the company got acquired) and now I have to decide whether or not I’ll go ahead and exercise my options. According to the math, I’d need to spend $20,000 to exercise my options. The problem is that I am forced to take a gamble on another private company (the ones who acquired them) — for the possibility of profit at a future time, basically waiting for another triggering event. As you can see, it’s a total crap shoot and not worth risking $20K on this. So this is why advising startups in exchange for equity is a losing arrangement in most cases.
