Story time! Mom was an asst. manager for yrs when corporate suddenly fired the manager (imo, too $$ for their liking) and moved all assts to hourly. Told us with overtime she was likely to make more annually. We said just wait until they realize. They "fixed" her pay again.

The United States can destroy Irans infrastructure, but it cannot destroy Iranian knowledge. These strikes may set Iran back, but it is also likely to incentivize Iran toward the bomb. The US still needs a plan for deescalation & a long term strategy to prevent proliferation

The U.S. attacked Iran, President Trump announced Saturday, striking nuclear sites Natanz, Fordow and Esfahan.

New: US Intel agencies assess that despite Israel's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, Tehran has not made the decision to move to a nuclear bomb. That will likely change, officials say, if the U.S. attacks Fordo or Israel kills the supreme leader. More: nytimes.com/2025/06/19/us/…

@Conservativeind Don't agree with your characterization of the last president, but all the same, this bill was also put forward during the Biden administration.

As Trump returns to the White House, we cannot let the power to start a nuclear war rest in the hands of a single individual. My and @RepTedLieu's Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act will ensure that no president can start a nuclear war without congressional approval.

@SenMarkey @RepTedLieu But you were okay with Biden having that power?when every day in the White House was like a nightmare version of weekend at Bernie’s? Nice try.

As the nuclear football—the secure briefcase enabling a U.S. president to authorize a nuclear strike—changes hands on Inauguration Day, a troubling question is raised: should one person hold the unchecked power to use nuclear weapons? buff.ly/4hjvY5d

@scientistsorg May be necessary for political reasons though. I at least want to give an American President the ability to test within 6 months, if he/she decides to test one for signaling purposes.

Restarting nuclear weapons is testing would be 1. bad for the environment 2. bad for public health 3. bad for national security 4. bad for global security 5. just plain bad The U.S. must continue its voluntary moratorium on all types of explosive nuclear weapons tests

“We rose up. We shared our stories of survival. We said: humanity and nuclear weapons cannot coexist.” Setsuko Thurlow (pictured) was just 13 years old when an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the city she lived in. She is one of the Hibakusha - the survivors of the horrific bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that took place in August 1945. This year’s #NobelPeacePrize was awarded to the Japanese organisation Nihon Hidankyo. This grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also known as Hibakusha, received the peace prize for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again. Thanks @ArmsControlNow for inviting me to write on the US presidential election and nuclear modernization. It is up to the next president to understand the difference between security and supremacy and prioritize a wholistic strategic review that includes real talk on risk.
Arms Control Assoc@ArmsControlNow

The next US president, inheriting a $1.7 trillion program to modernize the nuclear arsenal, needs to rethink nuclear strategy to avoid fear-based, short-term thinking... @JMSleight writes in the latest Arms Control Today feature section.
