Guys... my friend @PigWar is trying to convince me to change my phone from Samsung to an iPhone. I have been a LOYAL customer of Samsung for years. She says it's better. A heck of a lot better. What say you? Team Samsung or Iphone?!?

The not-drinking-alcohol trend has turned into hysterical wellness babble. It’s one thing to approach alcohol with intention, but another to fear it so much that you claim that a couple glasses of wine ruined their life. Oh no, you skipped a gym session? You “podcasted worse”? You got suboptimal deep sleep for one night? The horror. I don’t believe the obsession with “optimization” is healthy. People are slaves to their wellness devices and trackers. They allow data (a lot of which is probably not even that accurate) to dictate their life. It’s a very odd thing to demand that you must feel your 100% most optimized every minute of the day in order to live well. We are not robots. Look at the pockets of the world that live the longest, healthiest lives. They smoke cigarettes and enjoy wine with the people they love. It is no coincidence that the rates of depression and anxiety, SSRI use, and loneliness are rising alongside the sharp decline of people hanging out with friends and just drinking some alcohol. Nobody is saying you should drink every night or abuse booze. But my goodness enjoy life. And I say this as someone who has had only a few drinks in the last year fwiw.

Steven Bartlett says a few glasses of wine ruined the next 3 days of his life “It's one of those areas where you don't understand the hidden cost until you really give it up for a while. I stopped drinking at 30 years old. I'm now 33. When I was 31, I thought, I'll have a drink again because now I could really A/B test it. I had a year of not drinking, decided to have a drink again” “It ruined three days of my life. I had a couple of glasses of wine, didn't get drunk. It ruined three days of my life because of the domino effect it caused” “I got worse sleep that night, and then because I got worse sleep that night, I ate more poorly the next day because my dopamine system or whatever, the cortisol system was all messed up. I podcasted worse. I didn't go to the gym that day or the day after because I felt really bad. I then slept worse, and I could track all of this on my Whoop”

The trend of optimizing your life to the point of never having a drink or eating something “bad” likely does more harm than good over the long term. Living your life through some app or a spreadsheet is an easy way to suck the everliving joy out of it. Go have some fun.

I've been noodling over this sudden irrational anger being directed at boomers and gen-Xers by younger generations over the costs of living. One of the things that has struck me is their belief that minimum wage jobs should provide you with anything and everything your heart desires up to and including purchasing a home. Nobody and I do mean NOBODY I knew growing up looked at minimum wage work as anything other than an after-school job or a steppingstone to an ultimately higher earning job. Left-wing politicians and idealogues have pushed this narrative that everybody "deserves a living wage" right out of high school when historically that has never been the case. It's taken root with younger generations unfortunately and I personally think that's where much of this misplaced angst against the older generations is coming from.

I just had this conversation with a friend yesterday. Her husband hires apprentices for manual labor jobs and has had young people turn him down to continue working for $22/hr at Panda Express. Eventually these people could make significantly more plus get union benefits but don’t like the starting salary. If my kids thought like that they’d have stayed in their server jobs after college which paid more with tips than their starting sales or marketing jobs.

@Mt2Aguy This is the preponderance of so-called Democratic socialism. Young people have been duped into believing this Marxist mentality is the reality we should all strive for and that it was something that existed and was destroyed by older generations that have subverted their success.

M&M's is taking some criticism for this, but I think it's a sweet and cute tribute from his long time sponsor. I still can't believe Kyle Busch won a race last weekend, and just a few days later, there's a video of him racing go-karts with his son. A day later, he passed away at age 41. Life is short. Make every day count. Godspeed, Rowdy.
