@bellkare @politico Here is the one answer no Liberals can answer: the routes of trade are policed exclusively by the US Navy. How is Carney’s intl trade plan going to operate without tacit US approval?

@politico It's not a collapse. It's an intentional strategy by the US to try to put us into a position of submission, so it can extort. That's the fascist-felon's only play in his grifter playbook.

I spoke at a conference in Vancouver yesterday, when asked for my thoughts on Canada's Sovereign Debt fund, I provided an answer and halfway through I was cut off by the moderator and asked to stop as we as a group were "over our time limit." BUT he then went on to my colleague beside me who was allowed plenty of time for his glowing recommendation on Carney, their positive view of the fund and prospects for huge economic growth. How can we make progress if we are too afraid to address our shortcomings?

US economic data keeps surprising to the upside, while European data keeps surprising to the downside. That gap just keeps growing, according to Bloomberg economic surprise indexes.

🇨🇦 Scott Reid just revealed the Liberals are polling to see if Canadians want a U.S. trade deal. This is what "ideology over economy" looks like. We’ve been so conditioned by anti-American rhetoric that we’re debating if we should even have an economy at all. I’m losing my mind watching this. 🤦‍♂️🇨🇦 #CDNpoli #PierrePoilievre #EconomicCrisis #Canada

@urbanlamb @toronto_morning The point is - Carney keeps saying he will diversify away from US trade. Great. But this strategy leave all of the ships doing the actual trade at the mercy of the US given their navy. Trump ain’t kidding when he says he has “all the cards”.

@0nTack2 @valdombre Perhaps if you were armed with some facts - like the fact that the US Navy exclusivly gaurantees the safety of the oceans routes of trade, you might recognize why Trump claims to have “all the cards”.

@valdombre Not all provinces boycotted US alcohol but the ones with major populations did. And here I thought the US needed nothing from us? Let’s shut off the fuel and see how this goes. I’m willing to go scorched earth. They aren’t.

USA launches unprovoked trade war. Canada retaliates by boycotting American alcohol. USA calls this a "trade irritant" and threatens to punish us unless we buy their alcohol. What's the point of negotiating with this schizophrenic administration?

We stand our ground as we did from the beginning, while most other countries took the "appeasement" route, as they were terrified of the toddler-in-chief child rapist. And, they made those deals based on tariffs that were struck down as being illegal, everything the child rapist does is illegal. Many of those same countries still won't speak out against him, cowards. Do what thou wilt.

Ambassador Mark Wiseman tells Canadian MPs that reducing reliance on the United States by diversifying trade "doesn't mean abandoning our relationship with the United States." He adds for emphasis: "Other countries wish they were next door to the United States."

"There are other economies who decided to make it personal.. I think Carney has made it personal. I think it's political malpractice for the PM of Canada to pit politically himself against any president, and I don't care who the president is... it's political malpractice... Canada is depedent upon the U.S. economy... that's just a fact... the fundamental fact is geography wins out. "
cbcwatcher@cbcwatcher

ABSOLUTELY MUST WATCH CLIP... Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer on USMCA "They can have a weak economy that is underperforming and not doing well, and Carney can feel superior." "Or they can have an economy that participates with as a partner of the U.S. economy." "And Carney can do what a grownup should do, which is figure out." "...It's my job as a person who's supposed to protect Canadian jobs and Canadian citizens and the Canadian economy to not let my ego and my feelings dictate what's best for my own economy." Q "Do you think this will have implications for the USMCA?" Switzer "Yeah, of course it is..." "Look, was Ambassador Greer in Canada? Did he meet with Carney? No." "...The grownups are in the room talking because there's a grown up in the presidency in leadership there, and I would argue there's not a grown up in Canada in charge there." "You don't go out of your way to antagonize the leader of the country that you are absolutely existentially tied to." "It's just political malpractice." @markjcarney

@jengerson Ok how about this: the UN navy controls the routes of trade. Any scheme that assumes trade with other countries relies exclusively on US benevolence. If u haven’t read Disunited Nations (or at least got the AI summary) u r missing the story completely.

I think there are a lot of fair criticisms to be levelled at Carney; but starting from the assumption that the Americans are acting in good faith to secure "free trade" and the Canadians are mucking it up -- that's just pure delusion or dishonesty.
