At least some proportion of the injury issue is the chase for velo. Throwing at max intensity for extended seasons is undoubtedly a big part of the issue. Since no one is intetested in a kid that sits 84 but gets everyone out he is forced to chase velo. And that damages elbows and shoulders. This must be at least part of the problem.

A father told me his ten-year-old throws year-round on three teams. I asked what the rush was. A young arm does not bank innings, it spends them. Rest is not lost development. It is the development. The kids still pitching at eighteen are the ones who sat in the winter at ten.
