A hypertensive patient came to OPD today for a refill. He’d been taking the same meds since Dec 2021: T. Amlodipine 5mg (AM) and T. Telmisartan 40mg (PM). When I asked to check his BP, he was visibly irritated and told me "It’s been 5 years, I take them religiously. It’s well-controlled." He hadn't seen a doctor or checked his BP since 2022....just monthly trips to the pharmacy. I insisted. "This is a Govt Medical College; I don’t refill without a check-up." Lo and behold: 170/100 mmHg. I pushed for labs, and my gut feeling was right. Creatinine: 4.0, Urine protein: 2+, S. Potassium: 5.5. His kidneys are already failing because of "controlled" hypertension that wasn't actually controlled. The kicker? We now have to overhaul his entire regimen because the Telmisartan he fought to refill has to be stopped; his renal function is too far gone. Lesson: Adherence to pills is not equal to Adherence to follow-ups. Hypertension is a silent killer for a reason.

Regulatory Surveillance Over Weight Loss Drug (GLP-1) Supply Chain ➡️In order to ensure ethical pharmaceutical practices in the supply chain of Weight Loss Drug (GLP-1), the Drugs Controller of India has intensified its regulatory surveillance against the drug’s unauthorized sale and promotion. ➡️With the recent introduction of multiple generic variants of GLP-1-based weight loss drugs in the Indian market, concerns have emerged regarding their on-demand availability through retail pharmacies, online platforms, wholesalers, and wellness clinics. These drugs, when used without proper medical supervision, may lead to serious adverse effects and related health risks. ➡️Taking cognizance of the situation, India’s Drugs Controller, in collaboration with State Regulators, has initiated a series of targeted actions to curb possible malpractices across the pharmaceutical supply chain and prevent unauthorized sales and use. ➡️On March 10, 2026, a comprehensive advisory was issued to all manufacturers, explicitly prohibiting surrogate advertisements and any form of indirect promotion that could mislead consumers or encourage off-label usage. ➡️In the recent weeks, enforcement activities were significantly scaled up. Audits and inspections were conducted at 49 entities, including: Online pharmacy warehouses, Drug wholesalers, Retailers, Wellness and slimming clinics. These inspections spanned multiple regions across the country and focused on identifying violations related to unauthorized sale, improper prescription practices, and misleading marketing.
