@joeedon

I came here for Irish cricket scores after I realised Irish cricket was a thing in 2007.

I have to agree entirely here with Ger Siggins, I am sure that makes him feel better. But as he clearly points out the idea that Ireland cricket should have to make a stand shows just how ineffectual the leadership, or lack thereof, is in the ICC. Afghanistan should be barred from play all ICC members, full and Associate, and refused entry to all ICC competitions until they start to comply with all ICC regulations.

New York Gov Kathy Hochul is begging wealthy people who have moved to Florida and Texas to come back to New York and pay taxes. 🤣 "I need people who are high net worth to support the generous social programs that we want to have in our state. Now, there are some patriotic millionaires who stepped up. OK, cut me the checks if you want to be supportive, but maybe the first step should be go down to Palm Beach and see who you can bring back home." "I have to look at the fact that we are in competition with other states who have less of a tax burden on their corporations and their individuals. And I would say remote work changed everything." "There were people who could only work in an office in Manhattan and work in New York state. And they were captives to our state, they were going to stay. We saw that that's not the case. Wall Street businesses looking at Texas, they're not going there because they have a nicer governor. They're going there because of the tax rate."

was it always under the surface though? At a rough count almost twice as many Irishmen fought for Francisco Franco's Nationalists in the Spanish civil war as fought in the Republican side in the International brigades. I know Christy Moore would have you believe otherwise, but the Blueshirts were by far the majority.

The worst thing as an Irishman is seeing how antisemitism was always just lying under the surface of Irish life. My God what a wake up call.
Val Maylone@MayloneVal

@Glinner You’d think the Irish, who know what it is like to be wrongfully dehumanized historically, wouldn’t engage in such a thing as antisemitism. But I guess I am witnessing the reason my own Irish ancestors left. Hate mongering is the opposite of good character and intelligence.

if it is the case that Navy 2* and 3* Admirals are looking after the army's anti-tank gunners etc what then do the more than 30x2* and 10x3* army generals do, apart that is from run over budget procurement for IFV's that are more dangerous to their users than to the enemy they are facing? There can be no excuse for any navy to have 3 times as many admirals as it has ships. At least we know the RAF is using their senior officers to good effect, such as ensuring they do not hire or promote too many white officers.

This is not accurate by @afneil - the figure of approx 30 2*s covers roles across all of Defence, a global organisation of approx 250,000 people - the RN has very few Admirals doing 'Navy' jobs (about 10) - and they are generally very overworked. The few 2* I have personally known are usually doing 6-7 day weeks, usually 12-16hr days with few real 'perks'. They carry significant responsibility, serious regulatory (e.g. Aviation & Nuclear) challenges and have to run a force that operates on land, on the sea, below the sea and in the air - as well as across the UK. This is not a homogenous blob of people - its 30,000 nuclear engineers, chefs, weapons maintainers, scientists, infantry men, anti-tank gunners, pilots, divers, hydrographers, cyber experts, communications specialists, intelligence gatherers. The responsibilities are vast. My challenge to anyone who moans we need fewer senior leaders is to ask "which post would you cut" and "who will do the work that needs to be done when it has gone". Strangely they never have an answer that doesn't involve more Admirals...
Andrew Neil@afneil

No. It’s three per ship!! And I haven’t included commodores who can be regarded as director level too. The whole organisation is clearly top heavy with top brass. And doing a terrible job. In the private sector if 75% of your assets could not be deployed you’d be fired.

@ChrisMartzWX @piersmorgan Nobody likes or respects Morgan, he's the prick that put fake pictures of alleged British Troops in Iraq abusing prisoners. Which indirectly led to the deaths of British troops stationed there. The man is so low he could crawl under a snakes belly with a top hat on.

@LarryLeprechau In all honesty I find I get more updates from Larry regarding ongoing matches than I do from official CI sources. Maybe they just withdrew from Twitter/X cause Elon etc? Keep up the good work Larry, and now Lil Larry.

@WisdenCricket @CricketBadge Problem is that's far too sensible for it ever to happen! In the same way that teams touring England should play warm up matches against the Dutch and the Scots.

@ICC When are we going to see the Afghanistan Ladies team play? When will the ICC implement their own rules and ban the Afghan men's team from playing in any ICC sponsored events unless and until they have a fully active ladies team in place!

@ChrisMartzWX @zyus I would take that as a win, you got out of making an asinine post without a scintilla of supporting evidence with little more than a mild scolding! I was expecting a far more vitriolic response. Me thinks Chris is in a happy place today.

Hmm, it’s almost as if you don’t have a clue what the heII you’re talking about. Since 1872, Washington, D.C. has had a total of 18 streaks where temperatures have stayed below freezing for at least a week. • Dec. 17–25, 1876: 9 days • Dec. 30, 1876 – Jan. 5, 1877: 7 days • Dec. 23-29, 1878: 7 days • Dec. 28, 1880 – Jan. 3, 1881: 7 days • Feb. 17–23, 1885: 7 days • Jan. 8–14, 1886: 7 days • Jan. 10–20, 1893: 11 days • Feb. 3–14, 1895: 12 days • Feb. 6–14, 1899: 9 days • Dec. 26, 1899 – Jan. 2, 1900: 8 days • Dec. 16–22, 1901: 7 days • Jan. 29–Feb. 5, 1905: 8 days • Dec. 29, 1917 – Jan. 6, 1918: 9 days • Dec. 21–31, 1935: 11 days • Jan. 23–Feb. 3, 1936: 12 days • Feb. 9 – 15, 1979: 7 days • Dec. 16–25, 1989: 10 days • Jan. 24 – 31, 2026: 8 days (and counting) In case you can’t read, 15 of those were before 1950, 13 of which were recorded over 100 years ago. Only one, the current ongoing streak, has been in the last 30 years. So, no, this “unusual” weather isn’t at all becoming more frequent. Climate change and urbanization have both made these extreme cold events far less common It’s natural variability. It’s winter. Let this be a lesson for you to get your facts straight before spouting off about things you know nothing about.
Mr. proper@zyus

@ChrisMartzWX hmm it’s almost as if climate change leads to more extreme and uncommon weather conditions, have you went full circle in your denial?

@theJeremyVine I do think you saying "Didn't he see me signalling" was fairly hypocritical when you timeline seems to proliferate videos of cars signalling who you then harangue for not giving you right of way to undertake/filter them.

You brought up the fatuous analogy, I just pointed out I was being consistent and highlighting the misogynistic approach to women from the male dominated (sub) culture in Afghanistan, and contrasting it to the actions of every other cricket playing nation on Earth regardless of their political or religious cultures

@ESPNcricinfo if only the ICC had the cojones to replace Afghanistan as well, with a country obeys the rules regarding developing the sport for women and girls. You know like every single other ICC member nation.
