NEWS: Memphis has a zoom set up for tonight with San Jose State G Colby Garland, per source.
Recently had zooms with Auburn and Creighton as well. SMU, Kansas State, USC, + others also involved.
Memphis really prioritizing the guard spot so far, as I said they would. Big fan of that.

NEWS: Memphis is involved with San Jose State G Colby Garland, he tells me. Other schools involved include SMU, Kansas State, USC, Providence, Maryland, Creighton, + more. Very efficient scorer (20.3 PPG on 49/37/85 shooting splits) on a tough shot diet (45% of shots off dribble) with good playmaking skills (2.19 A/TO). Impressive finisher for his size (58.5% FG at the rim). Dealt with constant double teams last season. Last season, he put up 20.3 PPG 4.6 AST 3.3 REB. One of the better offensive players in the portal.

@joelhaley_ That maybe true but again, it's like realistic and not likely given what we know and what any person with sense about the program should know. It's like wanting Folks Folly (big name guys) to eat but having Whataburger money.

This is goofy to me...PJ isn't coming back to Memphis...he's probably going to command at least 2-3 million on the market....come on people...let's talk about people that they can realistically get not a guy who will command damn near half their NIL budget..

Well thats just not what i said.
But since you want to go there, and in no way are the same player, but Kendric Davis had multiple great games against Memphis in an SMU uniform. Never won anything there, even lost to Memphis in the 2022 Conference Tournament.
Guess where he went next year and won his first though ?
Players come to Memphis to have a better chance at winning, it’s usually almost never (in the Penny Era) that they were winners before they came.

Haggerty would be nice, but Brumbaugh is a fresh face I’d like to see on the Tigers’ roster next season.
Four 30+ point games this past season including two against Memphis, decent volume shooter and an active guard on the glass
He would thrive in Penny’s system.

Thedford nor Cello Jackson are two guys you’re going to look for to win games for you next year
Thedford has and will continue to make a solid impact and Cello won’t start this year but will develop nicely under Penny given that both of these guys play similar games.
Brumbaugh is that guy who can take over a game, you don’t bat your eye at him for those two names on your current three man roster.
It’d be a disservice to the program not to try and get him.

The NCAA is exploring a significant change to its eligibility rule, per Yahoo Sports’ @RossDellenger.
Next week, an NCAA committee will discuss a new age-based standard for athlete eligibility that would grant athletes five full years of eligibility from the time of their 19th birthday or their high school graduation.
No waiver requests, redshirts or exceptions will be permitted, except for a small group of outliers (those on maternity leave, military service or religious missions).
