@_LostGameDev This is extremely similar to the concept of Frontier Story by jmw, from the palette and lightning to the chickens, even the character

@WolfeyGlick A switch and a Pokémon game cost a couple hundred dollars so that entry barrier is kind of implied already, no?

Guess it's only for kids with parents who can afford to take them to events and pay to enter lol. This doesn't just affect younger players - at the moment, competitive Pokemons format is HEAVILY pay to win. You're allowed to attend virtually as many events as you want, and

Pokemon tournaments were free to enter until 2016, and initially cost $20. Organizers have been raising entry fees consistently since then - with it currently costing $70 to attend the lowest level of event (it was $60 last season).

For highly competitive players it doesn't matter that much, but I often wonder how we're supposed to motivate newer players to go to Regionals with the current entry fees (70$ @ Baltimore!). When I was younger and getting into the game that would have turned me away very quickly.

Recipe for failure: a startup with high burn and a moderately appealing product. If the product were obviously unappealing, you wouldn't work on it. If it were truly appealing, you'd grow fast. But a moderately appealing product lures you on.

After talking to each customer about the problem of support costs, he should have asked them to stack rank that problem vs. all the other problems they were trying to solve for their business & for their organization. THAT is where the real truth could have emerged.
