@StatsOnFire Teams should definitely spend a first round pick on a guy who won’t play for two years while they’re in the middle of a closing Super Bowl window.

There is no fanbase more obsessed with getting a backup left tackle than #49ers fans. There are exactly zero teams around the NFL that have a starting caliber left tackle just sitting around on the bench waiting for the actual starter to retire.

@BDPeacock I listen to the pod regularly, Brian. Big fan of you and Crock. Was listening to you and Wink back in the Gold Faithful days. It’s not like I don’t hear where you’re coming from, I just disagree with it based on how the team has been operating. We’ll see in two weeks.

@joewilka @KyleAMadson I’m not doing this again lol. You can check my timeline or listen to the pod for my thoughts on it. “They hate OL and will never draft one high” is a myth.

@BDPeacock @KyleAMadson They've taken one 1st round OL in this regime's history and that was to be an immediate starter at RT, and then they didn't even resign him. They got his replacement as a 5th round pick. I don't think they're burning a 1st round pick on OLine unless they know he's *the guy*

@joewilka @KyleAMadson Evans is on a 3 year deal. Everyone wants to call it 1 year… it CAN be, but that means the 49ers don’t want him in year 2. WR certainly a need long term. Much deeper position than OT if you’re trying to develop guys.

@KyleAMadson I have argued they actually value OT, but also that it’s more likely they’ll spend even more in 2027 to replace Trent than get ahead of that reality. It’s also gone underreported that they have no starters under contract for 2027 at LT, LG or C.

@CoachCrocky @Coach_Yac True. They were preparing for life after Deebo but were also in the middle of working on Aiyuk's extension. So why wouldn't they draft a guy this year at 27 so they're ready for life after Evans/Kirk, who are both basically on 1 year deals, while also hedging against Pearsall?

Matt Barrows draft crush this year is Omar Cooper Jr: “If this year’s draft crush process were a rom-com, the title might be something along the lines of, “How the 49ers Got their YAC Back”. You remember YAC (yards after catch), don’t you? Once upon a time, it was San Francisco’s calling card. There was Deebo Samuel steamrolling tacklers. Christian McCaffrey juked them. Brandon Aiyuk leaped over them. George Kittle outran them. Samuel coined the moniker “YAC Bros” in 2020, the year the 49ers led the NFL by averaging 6.2 yards after their catches. And it only went up from there — 6.8 yards in 2021, 6.7 in 2022 and 6.4 when they went to Super Bowl LVIII. In 2024, however, the team’s average YAC dropped to the middle of the pack at 5.3 before sinking to 4.7 last season. That ranked 28th, according to Pro Football Focus, and it was the lowest mark in Kyle Shanahan’s nine seasons in San Francisco. Samuel’s gone. Aiyuk is gonna be gone. And by the time the regular season begins, McCaffrey and Kittle will be in their 30s. Clearly, the 49ers need a youth and YAC infusion. Which is why this year’s Draft Crush makes so much sense. He’s a 200-pounder with the balance of Simone Biles. He’s a receiver who racked up 705 YAC and 22 touchdowns over the last two seasons. He’s the guy who made the biggest, and perhaps best, catch of the 2025 college football season in the back of the end zone at Penn State. He is … Indiana receiver Omar Cooper Jr. Cooper’s been getting a lot of Samuel comparisons in the run-up to the draft due to the 27 missed tackles he forced last season. That’s the most of any wide receiver in this year’s class and is six more than USC’s Makai Lemon, who’s expected to be taken in the middle of the first round. Cooper, however, isn’t quite Deebo Deux. The latter plays at 225 pounds and is best getting up to speed and using his heft like a wrecking ball. Cooper was roughly 25 pounds lighter at the NFL combine, where he ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash and had a vertical jump of 37 inches. In some ways — leaping ability and body control — he’s a bit like Aiyuk, whose high hurdle of a Philadelphia Eagles defender in 2020 prompted the YAC Bros nickname. You need only watch Cooper’s back-of-end-zone ascent — and perhaps more impressive, the toe-tap descent — against Penn State to appreciate his hops. Or note that as a high school track athlete, he once recorded a long jump of 21 feet, 11 ¾ inches, which is nearly two feet longer than a shipping container. As a rookie, he could line up in the slot. Or outside. Or in the backfield, which the Hoosiers did on occasion last season. Or the 49ers could put him in motion before the snap, the way Shanahan used to do with Samuel. Wherever Cooper lines up, he’ll help the 49ers get their YAC back.”

@Coach_Yac I’m a fan of cooper. I also don’t think 49ers draft a receiver high. Would be surprised after the vets they brought in.

Bleacher Report’s trade idea between the 49ers and Giants: 49ers receive: Dexter Lawrence Giants receive: 2026 2nd-rounder 2026 4th-rounder Brandon Aiyuk “In March, the 49ers made a move to beef up the interior of their defensive front, trading a 2026 third-rounder to the Dallas Cowboys for Osa Odighizuwa. Perhaps San Francisco isn’t done trying to revamp the unit under new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. Keep in mind that Alfred Collins had a quiet rookie campaign, logging 17 tackles (one for loss) and a sack. With a healthy Nick Bosa and 2025 first-rounder Mykel Williams on the edge, Lawrence and Odighizuwa would round out what could be an above-average defensive line. San Francisco could also find an opportunity to move on from Brandon Aiyuk in a trade instead of outright releasing him. 49ers owner Jed York and head coach Kyle Shanahan gave the impression that the team could keep Aiyuk, but it’s difficult to envision the receiver repairing his relationship with the club amid a lack of communication. The Giants signed wide receiver Darnell Mooney and pass-catching tight end Isaiah Likely in free agency, but they could help second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart tremendously by bringing in a talented receiver who racked up over 1,300 yards in 2023. If Aiyuk and Malik Nabers are both healthy after suffering serious knee injuries, they could be a premier receiver tandem.” via: @MoeMoton

@BDPeacock @AlSacco49 People always seem to confuse what *they* want the FO to do versus what they actually are likely to do. They’ve told us before they value prospects that score touchdowns or sack the QB. Their draft history also corroborates this. Mocks that have them taking an OL miss the point.

@AlSacco49 Very possible they aren’t eyeing OL. Edge is def the most unsettled immediately. But I’d argue FA left them in a better spot at WR than OL. Only two starting OL under contract in 2027. Jones coming off a broken neck. Trent is 38 on a 1 year deal vs Evans 33 on a 3 year deal.

@Luiz_Fernando_J What’s the story and why is this movie important? Star Wars movies were important because of the story. This just feels like brand management.

In my view, it goes to show the possible damage #DisneyPlus shows might have done to how audiences’ perception of the #StarWars brand might have changed, from IMAX must sees to streaming content. Until 2020, #StarWars was that major event that had to be experienced on the biggest screen possible no matter what. Watching each trailer in IMAX theatres was always an event in itself. Now I experienced the same thing Josh mentioned in his tweet, here at the BFI IMAX twice, when #TheMandalorianAndGrogu trailer showed up attached to #ProjectHailMary: crickets… it almost felt like it didn’t belong there. Which is insane because nothing used to belong more to IMAX than a new Star Wars film and its trailers. It could be the same phenomenon Disney original animations faced, specially Pixar, when #BobChapek decided that they should feed streaming with them instead of theatres. Since then, Pixar originals have been fighting hard to finally regain that perception of theatrical must sees, which Elemental and now Hoppers are finally just starting to turn the tides. Maybe it will be the same with #StarWars and IMAX love story to reignite, it might take a couple of new, good entries to make people excited about watching new SW in IMAX and associate it to an IMAX major event as it used to be.

They were literally hooting and hollering in the IMAX theater for the DUNE PART 3 and THE ODYSSEY trailers. Not so much for THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU.

@timkawakami Seems we have evidence of both sides pushing for urgency. Report to Schefter from Williams' camp right before Lynch spoke at the combine saying he'd be released prior to FA starting (so Trent could get in on that first wave presumably) and then yesterday from the 49ers re: trade

If nothing happens, Trent gets the $10M option bonus and only gets more leverage as the season approaches. So why would his camp be the one making it urgent now unless the 49ers are pushing for the urgency?
Tim Kawakami@timkawakami

Some is undoubtedly from Williams' camp, but as I've said, I think that's been prodded by aggressive 49ers negotiating, which is typical of them in March. The 49ers have the incentive for action now--cap space, the $10M bonus payment.
