My first read for November is here ☺️☺️☺️

Jostein Hauge@haugejostein
This is one of the books that inspired me to pursue a master's degree in development economics. I remember being consumed by it during breaks in a summer job I had in 2009 in Tromsø, my hometown. Sometimes I even hid in remote bathrooms just to read a little more.

Raila Odinga was a true champion of democracy. A child of independence, he endured decades of struggle and sacrifice for the broader cause of freedom and self-governance in Kenya. Time and again, I personally saw him put the interests of his country ahead of his own ambitions. Like few other leaders anywhere, he was willing to choose the path of peaceful reconciliation without compromising his core values. Through his life, Raila Odinga set an example not just for Kenyans, but across Africa and around the world. I know he will be missed. Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Kenya.

MINISTER KOMBO: AFRICA-NORDIC COOPERATION – A PILLAR FOR PEACE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, H.E. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, emphasized the importance of the Africa-Nordic Ministerial Meeting as a critical platform for discussing the challenges facing the African continent and identifying joint solutions through international collaboration.
Speaking at the 22nd Africa-Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which brought together African countries and the five Nordic nations (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland), Minister Kombo highlighted that many global conflicts, including those in Africa, are often driven by issues such as border disputes, competition over resources, youth unemployment, ethnic tensions, and weak conflict-prevention mechanisms.
He stressed that international forums play a vital role in addressing these challenges by pooling collective knowledge and resources. Furthermore, he underscored that the foundation of lasting security in Africa lies in conflict prevention rather than reactive measures. Minister Kombo also highlighted the importance of technology and innovation as key drivers for societal development and for building a future anchored in peace and sustainable development.
Minister Kombo further emphasized the urgent need to address youth unemployment in Africa, noting that young people constitute a vital resource for the continent’s development. He called for investment in policies and programs that create jobs, enhance innovative skills, and strengthen the use of technology to enable youth to actively participate in building resilient economies and peaceful societies.
In his closing remarks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, Prof. Amon Murwira, noted that discussions at the meeting focused on collaborative efforts in science, technology, and innovation, with particular emphasis on amplifying youth voices in policy-making and fostering youth-led innovation systems.
Prof. Murwira identified key strategic sectors prioritized for collaboration, including clean energy, employment, infrastructure, climate-resilient agriculture, and sustainable mining. He emphasized that the meeting aimed to harmonize policies, promote joint investment, and shift cooperation from reliance on foreign aid toward a model grounded in trade and investment. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening rail infrastructure and establishing a coordination platform to ensure that adopted resolutions are effectively implemented.
