Don’t get the Andy Burnham thing. If he becomes PM I hope he succeeds. But why is he even being talked of as a Prime Minister? Just because he’s capped bus fares in Manchester and has a net approval rating of 4? It’s verging on fantasy politics without much foundation in reality.

The whole ethos of BBC Today Programme has changed out of all recognition. It has become a magazine programme. Nothing wrong with that. However, it's a far cry from the days of Robert Robinson, John Timpson, Sue McGregor and Brian Redhead. Maybe change is a progressive innovation
