This isn’t accurate. The secure sandbox of Perplexity Computer creates a temporary proxy token for every user session. We choose not to hide it from the user because it’s their token. (They can do whatever they want with it, but I don’t recommend posting it on X) It’s not an API key, it’s a short-lived proxy token associated with the session and user. It’s located in the sandbox, because that’s the point of the sandbox. Anything run through it is billed back to your account. Billing is async, which may have caused this user’s confusion. Don’t worry, as soon as we saw this post we ensured this user’s session token was revoked for security. The session he describes generated 197 billing events. We shared billing details with him directly but can’t publicly. (Billing is done at the proxy, and every cost is attached to the proxy token.) Thank you @YousifAstar for creative security research and collaborative spirit. Everyone else - email is a slow way to reach us! We have a thriving VDP that helps keep all of our products secure. perplexity.ai/hub/security-v…

I love the MCP vs CLI/API argument. Some people are completely brainwashed either way. It's like Mac vs PC from 20 years ago, or iPhone vs Android. In the end who cares, just use what you want. One is better, one is worse. No amount of debating will change people's opinions
Rhys@RhysSullivan

MCP sucking is a harness problem, not an MCP problem MCP unlocks behavior that is fundamentally impossible to get via CLI or APIs Bad auth, too much context usage, all get solved with an execution layer - your agent writes code to progressively discover and call tools

@fatih @hardiksd CLIs (and most things) run well on cheap, resumable, per-user remote sandboxes with short lived auth tokens

@hardiksd I know it is, but CLI runs in your localhost, MCP doesn't have to. You're focusing on the wrong thing. Context bloating is unrelevant, it'll get better.

They are not dead. They are a must have for any enterprise installation and companies with hundreds of employees. I also thought MCP was dead, but you're thinking like an indie hacker. Assuming you're working at a company with 50 people, people install remote MCP servers, use Oauth and then are done. Everyone is authenticated and you don't have to fiddle around with CLI's. It's also secure. For example check @cursor_ai's new Plugin MarketPlace and you got the idea why MCP's are blooming and why they solve a real issue.
@levelsio@levelsio

Thank god MCP is dead Just as useless of an idea as LLMs.txt was It's all dumb abstractions that AI doesn't need because AI's are as smart as humans so they can just use what was already there which is APIs

one of the best parts of @perplexity_ai finance is that we manage all of the data integrations for you. We've integrated with myriad, high-quality providers to ensure accurate data and clear audibility traces. In DR all numbers (and derivative calculations) are traceable back to source documents. Not something a simple MCP connector can do for you.

@garrytan + you're outsourcing quality, latency, uptime to an entity over which you have little control. just write bash + sql!

MCP sucks honestly It eats too much context window and you have to toggle it on and off and the auth sucks I got sick of Claude in Chrome via MCP and vibe coded a CLI wrapper for Playwright tonight in 30 minutes only for my team to tell me Vercel already did it lmao But it worked 100x better and was like 100LOC as a CLI
Morgan@morganlinton

The cofounder and CTO of Perplexity, @denisyarats just said internally at Perplexity they’re moving away from MCPs and instead using APIs and CLIs 👀

The finance team very intentionally focused on building integrations in-house instead of relying on third party MCPs, because accuracy and quality are paramount. We'll continue to raise the quality bar here and expand partnerships with new exchanges and providers so you can focus on building.

There's a lot of back and forth re: future of Excel. I'll share my thoughts on this for investing later, but for now can share: Our finance team's use of spreadsheets have likely dropped by 60%+ by simply asking Computer on Slack. No more manual csv imports or data pulling.
Perplexity@perplexity_ai

We are also bringing Computer to Slack. When we first tested Computer internally, it was as a Slack integration. We found it was a powerful way to share and collaborate on tasks. Now you can add Computer to any channel or DM.

This @perplexity_ai usecase blew my mind. I've always wanted a tool that tracks all S&P500 earnings and key things said by executives in their earnings calls. I simply do not have the time and bandwidth to read all 500. Prompt: I want an interactive dashboard that tracks every single earnings report in the transcripts of the S&P 500 companies every quarter. Note common themes that executives are talking about. Keywords and trends that could help me potentially make money and identify larger trends. As a momentum trader. S&P 500 Earnings Intelligence Dashboard is live and fully updated with 484 company transcripts covering the latest earnings season. What's inside: 5 KPIs at a glance — total companies, themes tracked, momentum signals, average sentiment, and sector coverage Theme frequency chart : aggregated by GICS sector, so you can see which sectors are driving each narrative (AI CapEx, margin expansion, regulatory risk, etc.) Sector sentiment ranked as horizontal bars — Utilities leading at 0.79, Consumer Staples trailing at 0.66 12 momentum signals — 8 bullish, 3 caution, 1 energy transition — with the tickers behind each signal Searchable executive quotes with sector filters and pagination across all 484 companies Full sector breakdown showing every company's sentiment, themes, and key quotes Recurring refresh: A quarterly refresh is scheduled for May 15, Aug 15, Nov 15, and Feb 15 at 9am EST (cron a07f9c7c). Each run will pull fresh transcripts for all S&P 500 constituents, reprocess through NLP, and redeploy the dashboard automatically. @jeffgrimes9 @dnlkwk @alexhong @AravSrinivas Computer IS INSANE. Can't wait to see what else I can build for myself.

As “chat” has served as a familiar interface for turn by turn interactions with an AI, the product mechanics and interaction design of a “inbox” will be the primitive for agent products.
