Absolute legend from Episode 1 till the end. They really lost a gem 💎

#Reds quarterly report: Most disappointing position player through 41 games. Sadly…..take your pick. TJ Friedl: What happened? A year ago, he was the ignitor/tone setter for this team. Only Shohei Ohtani and Fernando Tatis Jr. reached base more from the leadoff spot than Friedl. But his OBP has plunged from .364 to .267. After leading the team in walks (81) last season, he’s T-6th with… 12. After hitting .284 vs fastballs last season, he’s at .220 this season. He doesn’t run well. Doesn’t field well. Doesn’t throw well. His WAR is -0.1. Noelvi Marte: Moved to right field last July, he excited us with .263, 14 HR, 51 RBI, and a .748 OPS in 90 games. Only 24, he was going to be a right handed power bat in the lineup. He was the Opening Day RF. But 29 AB into this season (.139), the Reds had seen enough. He’s been at Louisville ever since. He’s hit there (.375). But it speaks volumes the Reds turned to Blake Dunn before they turned back to Marte. Ke’Bryan Hayes: The bar wasn’t exactly set high for him, but it was certainly higher than .139 with 3 RBI and 7 runs. His OBP is .194. His .422 OPS is down from his career mark of .656. Holy. The best thing you can say about him is that he’s only struck out 19 times. Other than driving himself in with his homer, he has driven in two runners, all season. Incredible. I know. I know. The underlying metrics say he should be better. Still waiting. Defensively, he’s made some plays. But if we are being honest, there have been more than a couple that he should have made, and didn’t. Matt McLain: Hopes got skewed by his .509 batting average in Goodyear. But his current .204 batting average is even below his .220 of a year ago. His hard hit rate has plunged from 40.7 last season, to 30.8 this season. He does lead the team with 21 walks. His defense and baserunning remain stellar. I root for him. He plays the game the right way. But….. Tyler Stephenson: Not much was expected, but it’s gotta be more than this: 192-.289-.293-.582, 2 HR, 7 RBI.
