one nice thing about building physical things is it energizes everyone in proximity. building out our new founder house, in an edgier neighborhood in SF, has the neighbors and surrounding business owners poking their heads in during construction, offering advice and encouragement, welcoming us. we're small fish but it feels good being part of 'SF is back'

Update: I moved to SF! This summer I'll be at the @joinaccelr8 Hacker House in Alamo Square scaling Timeslicer + Hotslicer Media Ever since starting college i've been living a double identity, part engineering student, part founder. However in the last year the businesses went from “side hustle” to having real defensibility. I scaled the agency to multi six-figures in revenue And raised $300k for Timeslicer. If I can do all that while juggling school, I believe being 100% focused for a few months will lead to the best outcomes yet. If you are in the city I would love to connect, shoot me a DM!

I really, really feel this. San Francisco changed my life. I was fortunate to arrive at the start of the AI wave, where @camsinit introduced me to Claude Sonnet 3. I met people who made cool things just because it’s cool. I saw @thejesonlee start @join_savant, @yoeven start @interfaze_ai, @DhravyaShah start @supermemory, @Accelr8_Dan start @joinaccelr8, and saw progress and results produced by so much care, sweat, and hard work. But incentive structures have fundamentally changed. The SF gold rush is well underway. Billions of dollars, no - trillions, maybe even quadrillions - are at stake. AI and the corresponding gold rush has already shaken the fabric on which our societies are built. Traditional trust networks and brands are being broken. Cluely made rage baiting look easy. But @im_roy_lee is unique and special. He was first, and his strategy was therefore deliberate, strategic, and highly risky. The copycats do not have the same care and effort; perhaps it’s the first example of AI slop. AI empowers more slop and copycats than perhaps anything else. Society is not seeing originality nor improvements. Society is taking note. (The Canadians in SF especially so!) How do we fix this? Build solutions, not AI solutions. Create creativity. Spawn originality. Give back to community. This won’t happen anytime soon - the gold rush will continue, there’s too much at stake. SF is a boom and bust city in its nature; to expect otherwise is a foolish folly. But other places in the world can learn from its strengths and its mistakes and help usher in the change that the world needs. SF is a still great place, but curiosity, whimsy, and leisurely culture is now priced out. The viability of the small bets necessary, on the path to big bets, is shrinking. That cycle of small -> big bets is necessary for the ecosystem to thrive. That’s the fabric on which civilization runs on, and without it, I struggle to see how tech will convince mainstream audiences that tech and AI exists for everyone’s good. There’s just one place - in the snowy white north - with the potential to change this… but that’s for another day.
