Just met a founder who got royally screwed by a "VC" Worse, the lawyers they talked to in India before signing the docs assured him the terms were customary. I built a free tool to evaluate investor terms and avoid these catastrophic issues. Like/reply if you want access.

@julianweisser So many horror stories of founders not understanding that "customary" is usually anything but!

Jimmy Douglas has been focused on used electric vehicles since his days leading the division at Tesla. After ODF1, he set out to build Plug (marketplace for EVs) teaming up with the marketplace masters at Floodgate. They're now on track for $100M in revenue.
weisser@julianweisser

He quit Tesla to start a company but it wasn't a smooth ride. It took 14 (!!) GTM pivots but now he's on track for $100M this year. Moving to SF changed my life. In the last 2 years, I paid it forward and helped hundreds of founders relocate to do their life's work. I want to work with you & invest $100K if you: - are building solo - feel what you’re building is a calling - have paying users who love you

The Solo Founders Program turns one today. Many say you need a co-founder to get started. They're wrong. The best founders have never waited around for a co-founder. Will you?

Congrats, @aroraharshita33! Inspiring to see both AtoB's and your personal success since ODF3.
Y Combinator@ycombinator

We're excited to welcome Harshita Arora (@aroraharshita33) as YC's newest General Partner! She started coding at 13, built and sold her first app as a teenager, and later co-founded AtoB (YC S20), a Series C company building financial infrastructure for the trucking industry, now serving 30,000+ fleets—and became YC’s youngest Visiting Partner. Now she's bringing that experience to support YC founders. ycombinator.com/blog/welcome-h…

@julianweisser Looking at the top ODF companies, the only thing they have in common is how much they went against Factory beliefs: - co-founders who hadn't worked together previously - solo founders - building in "terrible" markets - remote teams - bootstrapping to massive outcomes

Her best friend passed away. She built an AI to keep talking to him. Now 30M people use Replika. Solo Founders Podcast ep 4 is live with @ekuyda. Former journalist, now 2x solo founder, who's been building consumer AI since 2014. As if Replika wasn't ambitious enough, she just raised $20M for @wabi to help people create personal software. Her take: storytelling is the rarest founder skill. Vision comes from one person. Don't dilute authorship by randomly assigning co-founder titles to make VCs happy. 00:12 Is there really one founder calling the shots anyway? 01:58 Why "designed by committee" fails 03:28 Origin story: from early language models to Replika 22:57 Why people feel blocked without co-founders 25:32 The co-founder pressure trap 34:33 Authorship vs team sport 41:02 Wabi, creativity, and personal software 59:22 Building elite teams as a solo founder 01:09:03 The bear case for solo 01:11:59 The bull case for solo
