Grandma Gatewood: The 67-Year-Old Who Shocked the Hiking World 🥾🌄
In 1955, a quiet Ohio grandmother named Emma Rowena Gatewood set out alone to walk the entire Appalachian Trail.
She was 67 years old.
With no modern gear, no hiking experience, and carrying little more than a homemade denim bag with basic supplies, Gatewood walked more than 2,000 miles from Mount Oglethorpe to Mount Katahdin.
She wore simple sneakers instead of boots and often slept under the stars.
Against all odds, she became the first woman to solo-hike the entire Appalachian Trail. Even more remarkable, she did it again at age 69 and once more in sections at 71.
Her journey wasn’t just about adventure—it was about freedom. After raising 11 children and surviving years of domestic abuse & hardship, Gatewood simply decided it was time to walk.
Her story later inspired the book Grandma Gatewood’s Walk and helped bring national attention to the Appalachian Trail.
At 67, most people are slowing down. Emma Gatewood started the adventure of a lifetime.
Most people today couldn’t handle a 2,000-mile hike with the kind of simple gear she used.

@FreyjaTarte Exactly. An armed citizenry protects against tyranny. Which party wants gun ownership restricted/prohibited? When someone tells you who they are, listen.

This heartbreaking exchange from an Iranian chat says it all.
As an Iranian girl swings on a beach in Bandar Abbas against the backdrop of rising smoke columns after airstrikes man one laments: "IRGC destroyed my beautiful country with its Islamic dumb ambitions."
His friend asks why Iranians don't just arm themselves or form a militia.
The raw reply: "Should we pull a gun out of our butt or something? 'Arming' is easier said than done. The IRGC has eyes and ears everywhere and controls everything—from the internet to the water."
This is why I love the United States Constitution.
The Second Amendment exists precisely because the Founders understood tyranny. They knew that an armed, free people serve as the ultimate check against a government that monopolizes force and crushes dissent.
In places like Iran, civilians are disarmed while the regime's enforcers control every aspect of life. Courageous protests continue, but the structural barriers are immense.
Grateful every day for the rights that protect us from becoming like this. Never take them for granted.

@ClownWorld When I was a kid, the 5 and dime sold candy cigarettes, also packs of realistic looking cigs loaded with talcum, so when you blew through it, it produced a puff of "smoke". Good times.

BREAKING: Tiger Woods was arrested after being involved in a car crash in which he showed “signs of impairment,” police say.
“Mr. Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple zeros, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused and so he’s been charged with DUI, with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test,” Sheriff John Budensiek said.

@MemesNoWords @krassenstein I believe I would have opened that box in an outer office.

BREAKING: At his cabinet meeting, Trump just bragged about how hard the mathematical equations of his cognitive test that he passed were.
FACT: The hardest mathematical equation on such a test is referred to as the “Serial 7s” Test:
You start at 100 and keep subtracting 7, out loud:
100 → 93 → 86 → 79 → 72 → 65 → 58 →
This is literally what he’s bragging about. My seven-year-old could do this.

@jsolomonReports I believe we've seen the end of morning show talking heads parading their families in front of the camera in an effort to humanize themselves and seem more likeable.

@ThomasSowell I'll need some clarification. The Oxford English Dictionary contains 4,806 words beginning with "n". Which of these am I not permitted to speak aloud?

President Trump: "We're slashing the prices of key staples for American families. The cost of cheese, butter, potatoes and fruit many, many other products is lower today... Eggs are down as an example, 60% from when I took office, and we have others coming down."

@Biblicalman Wait, aren't you doing it again? Maybe you should exit social media.

i got 24 million views for telling a story about my wife and the dishes. i felt like a god. then i walked into the kitchen and saw her face.
She wasn't celebrating. She was furious.
I had been married to this woman for 25 years. We raised five kids together.
And I had just reduced her to a punchline so strangers on the internet would think I was profound.
"You made yourself look like a fool," she said. "And you used my private life to do it."
She was right.
I was getting DMs from Christian radio stations wanting to use her quotes. K-Love was asking for permission.
I should have been proud. Instead, I felt like a pimp.
I had turned my marriage into an engagement honeypot. I was hooking on a digital corner, trading the sacred intimacy of my home for likes from men I will never meet.
I see Christian men doing this every day now.
Tweeting their wives' sexual pasts. Broadcasting their private arguments. Turning the sanctuary of their marriage into content for the feed.
They think they are sharing a testimony.
They are just selling their wives to the algorithm.
A marriage is a sacred union between two people and God. Not a union between two people, God, and millions of scrollers.
You are supposed to be your wife's vault. Her protector. The one place on earth where she isn't being consumed.
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends. (Prov 17:9, KJV)
I deleted the strategy. I apologized to the woman who built my life.
I stopped treating my home like a content farm.
Are you protecting your wife?
Or are you just using her for reach?

@EllieDnHarlem @PoliticsBoy2025 @FoxNews Rahm Emmanuel is smart enough to be dangerous. They should make him the candidate, but they won't. They'll end up with Pritzker, that fat tub of goo

JUST VISITING: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is returning next month to New Hampshire, the state that for a century has held the first primary in the race for the White House.
Clinton, who has recently dismissed any idea of running for president for a third time, will headline the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s annual spring fundraiser dinner.

English

@PoliticsBoy2025 @FoxNews I'd love it too. People find her so unlikeable, she lost to the most under qualified man in American history.

@FoxNews I would love to see Mrs Clinton run! Just would blow the MAGA minds and all the MAGA wack jobs🤓

@MattWalshBlog I think suicide is a mortal sin, but if someone is terminal and in unrelenting pain, I understand.
English

All of the arguments for euthanasia fail. Even if I agreed that people have some kind of moral right to kill themselves (which I don’t), euthanasia wouldn’t be needed to exercise that “right.” You can already kill yourself. The idea that people need some kind of state sponsored system just to commit suicide is totally incoherent, even on its own terms. And those term are totally deranged because in truth, again, there is no moral right to suicide.
But that’s almost a separate question, or at least a question further downstream. When it comes to euthanasia, the first and most immediate question is not whether people have the right to kill themselves, but whether the STATE and the MEDICAL INDUSTRY have the right to kill people. Should doctors be in the business of deliberately killing human beings? Should we have a bureaucracy for suicide? These are the real questions. And even if you (wrongly) think that humans have a moral right to murder themselves, you should still be able to see why doctors and bureaucrats ought to have no role in it.
