Fortescue is disappointed by the delay in adopting the @IMOHQ’s Net-Zero Framework — a landmark proposal that would have set global shipping on a clear course toward decarbonisation. After years of negotiation and broad international support, today’s outcome represents a lost opportunity for the world to take collective, decisive action on one of the hardest-to-abate sectors. While some countries chose to defer progress, the direction of travel for shipping is already clear. The transition to zero-emission fuels is inevitable — and the technologies to enable it already exist. Fortescue remains firmly committed to demonstrating what is possible through our own green shipping program. We’ll continue to work with governments, industry partners and international institutions to help accelerate the shift to Real Zero. 🌏

And thank you @fbirol for highlighting to everyone here that 80% of “the very strong growth” of electricity is renewable. These renewable electrons will take us far, but not all the way, why we need to double down on #greenhydrogen, for green shipping, steel and fertilisers. @gh2org @GRA_Renewables

Today the EU Commission’s draft definition of low-carbon hydrogen is being presented to national experts. @ContexteEnergie outlines how a technical argument over secondary legislation has reignited a much more fiery dispute over national energy mixes 👇 contexte.com/eu/article/ene…

Seriously? Heat pumps are a mature technology that has been around for more than 100 years. All authoritative analyses indicate that we need to deploy millions of them to reach net zero. Public controversy stems from poor reporting - Evan tried to change that.

Sad news about the Happy Heat Pump Podcast. Sorry to say, that after about 20 episodes, we’re drawing it to a close at the request of the BBC which worries it may be seen as steering into areas of public controversy. 1/2 youtu.be/RJPKgngqoX0?si…

Temporary dip. There is simply no alternative to renewable/green hydrogen. Governments, pls make it affordable. Allow low carbon alternatives a fair chance against fossil fuels. @gh2org ft.com/content/4590e0… via @ft

Here's the reality of carbon capture and storage, after 50 years of practice: a bonanza for oil companies, but useless as a mitigation measure. desmog.com/2023/09/25/fos…

This is absolute madness. Carbon capture and storage has failed time and again. Labour has slashed reliable green programmes, to pour vast sums of our money into a complete crock. The only possible explanation is lobbying by fossil fuel companies.🧵 theguardian.com/environment/20…
