@CFLLATENEWS I really wonder if Péladeau sees a CFL Quebec City franchise and French language CFL TV rights as the way to save TVA Sports which hasn't had an easy time of late. The CFL will be especially attractive if NHL rights are too expensive.

Our office (except Ted) that if Laval ever became open, french tv numbers may skyrocket even more if Quebec City got a CFL franchise. RDS!

@ZachKeilman I watch both. Always interested to see former CFL players in the UFL and players who may join the CFL some day. The leagues do compete for talent but benefit off each other as they give a bigger pool of players a place to have a career and stay in football.

Started earlier, but this was probably at its peak when the XFL and CFL explored merging in 2021. I remember a lot of vitriol between traditional CFL followers and the XFL guys that felt it made too much sense and that the CFL guys should just accept that it is happening despite at that point the XFL not having really much legs to stand on. Today's version likely stems from that somewhat with financial sustainability questions still lingering over the CFL and (even more so) the UFL coupled with the CFL being pushed towards some more Americanized rules this year. Messing with tradition in that league coupled with it being influenced by its American counterpart creates some contention.

@JonathanClink @TheUFL Guess they don't want ties in the regular season, although I remember a great 30-30 Labour Day game between the Ti-Cats and Argos in the 2000s.

@jonathan_doupe @TheUFL Yes, that would be a big mistake if they do vote that way. The lining up at the 3 feels like a hockey shootout or soccer penalties, not great ways to end a game.

@1mikepalko A big marketing mistake with the UFL is to treat the games as practice rather than creating intense rivalries.

OT is rare in the UFL. The league wants these games to finish without taking too much extra time, wear and tear on the players trying to get film for the NFL. Weird rule, but in the grand scope of what the league is all about, we should understand why this rule is there.

@DarshanVancity Another rule like this is the automatic safety awarded when an intentional grounding penalty (to avoid a sack) occurs in the endzone, but at least that makes sense.

8 consecutive failed conversions resulting in the game being decided by a penalty. This ain’t football.

(i.e., if a game's still tied after playing the current overtime system, teams would alternate 2-pt conversion attempts from the 3 yd. line). Doubt they use UFL penalty rule

Not adopting the same ruleset the CFL uses for overtime was a missed opportunity. The NFL should also use CFL overtime rules.

@JEF_300 The British cynicism about space is puzzling. They produced the British Interplanetary Society, The Sky at Night (very successful astronomy TV show), and others. There are successful companies like SSTL but then major projects (Black Arrow, Orbex,etc.) always get cancelled.

I think Americans who think returning to the Moon is a waste are fools with no perspective on what the costs are. But a British person saying "WE are wasting energy on this" is fucking outrageous. You guys put like ~20 million into this $2 billion mission. Shut up. You're fine.
