The key is really the 12 months / 1.5 years. That’s the great indicator of a problematic employee. Why? Do the math. 3 month honeymoon period. 3 months of “ok, let’s get cracking.” 3 months of “um…something is off.” 3 months of “ok, I’m serious.” And then anywhere between 3 to nine months of “do we have to fire them or will they figure it out?” This is why the specific 12-18 stint, repeated, is such a valuable signal of a problematic staffer.
