Exactly four years ago, Russian forces dropped aerial bombs on the Mariupol Drama Theatre On March 16, 2022, occupying forces dropped two 500-kg bombs on the theater. At the time, it was being used as a shelter for hundreds of civilians, including children, a warning reading “CHILDREN” had been written in large letters outside the building, visible even from satellites. According to eyewitnesses, around a thousand people were inside the theater. The exact number of victims of one of the largest Russian terror attacks of the war remains unknown. In occupied Mariupol, efforts were made to conceal the traces of this war crime. They have broken the ministerial code. There is a specific bit about value for money: "A4.13.15 Departments shall not treat special severance as a soft option, for example to avoid management action, disciplinary processes, unwelcome publicity or reputational damage." So £34,670 of Peter Mandelson's payout was ex gratia; ie. the FCO wrote him a cheque with taxpayers' funds - when there was NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO; and when the man had brought disgrace to his role and his country.

Now we know Mandelson got a £75,000 pay off. But he should have been sacked for gross misconduct. Which would have nullified any pay off. So what was he sacked for then? He asked for £500k!

@worstall I pay probably about £1,000 fuel duty a year; yet I pay many (many) times that in income tax. Maybe see if cyclists skew more heavily into a given income tax bracket - that will give you the true answer on who pays.

Abject nonsense. Cyclists are not paying fuel duty. Drivers of IC vehicles are. The takings from fuel duty are double, triple, the costs of the road system. Everyone is, in fact, driving on roads paid for by petrol/derv. Which is the problem with EVs. They're not paying. Yet.

He's been given an order - weird he doesn't say: "the only way I can get it filled quickly is with a market order, that will likely result in a worse price than working it gently on the book - which do you want?" Would rather it filled slowly on the book, vs getting it filled instantly and the client going off his nut even more?!

@v8fettler @MrMBrown He’s short on the stock. (Sold it and wanted to buy it back when it was a lower price). -25k shares Price has gone up. He now needs to buy the stock back because he ‘owes’ the market 25k shares of the stock. The broker can’t fill the order instantly
