This is depressing, what a lack of ambition. So we have hoards of tourists (apparently) in Belfast city centre. Let’s put arts and culture events on, run artisan markets where local goods can be sold, pop up play areas, close streets and have food trucks…..no…. Open Marks and Sparks and Primark. What a depressing council we have
What about the workers? They have choice to work apparently. Sure, they can’t be forced, but if you’re on a part time contract or zero hours contract are you really saying no?
Open the shops, that’s the height of ambition in this city, maybe make the city centre look nicer and people might want to come in!

Today I met with King Charles at Hillsborough. I welcomed his continued efforts to promote positive relationships between our islands, and people of Irish and British traditions here. This included hosting Uachtarán na hÉireann Catherine Connolly yesterday, and attending a Fleadh Cheoil event today, recognising and celebrating the vibrancy of Irish culture and language. We all come from different lived experiences and perspectives, but that should never be a barrier to showing respect for each other’s views and identities. The UKG are out telling us how great the economy is doing. Northern Ireland is not funded at need and here's the perfect example- 60% of our hospices are reliant on charity donations and are struggling. So please, don't boast about a great economy when the UKG make a decision not to fund core services in which to give people end of life services. Both the Conservatives & Lab have made austerity an article of faith. Meanwhile, the rich get richer and we don't have the funds to run hospices. Wake up and use your voice. Call for better for us all. Value shared humanity and fight back against this. This is neither civilised or dignified. This is not what people want.

@IrishLupus NI is legally a region, province, or constituent part of the UK, not a distinct country.
The Montevideo Convention sets rules for sovereign states, so using it to define a sub-national territory is legally incorrect.
It has no independent statehood and Cllr Hynds knows that !

As a publicly funded councillor, you should know Northern Ireland is a province, not a country.
Calling it one is an increasingly blatant, unacceptable attempt to over politicise your role.
There should be no issue saying what it actually is...

I see Tourism NI are encouraging the use of “the North” instead of Northern Ireland in some circumstances. As a publicly funded body, it should remain impartial and avoid alternative political terminology. The politicisation of publicly funded bodies is becoming increasingly blatant and unacceptable. This is Northern Ireland, and there should be no issue saying it proudly.

@Jenny_1884 A child with adhd has no sense of danger and run into traffic . Having a badge means they can park close to the entrance reducing the risk. My son is AdHd we could apply for a badge but we don’t. I just carry him from the car to the shop.

Can someone explain to me like I’m 2 yrs old why someone who has ADHD which means they are hyperactive not physically disabled would be entitled to a blue badge & get free parking.
I thought the whole point of having a blue badge was for people that have a physical disability.
