Wow. @MayorofLondon @SadiqKhan asks @Keir_Starmer to not only “rejoin the EU Customs Union and the Single Market this Parliament”, but also to “fight the next general election with a clear manifesto commitment: a vote for Labour means we would rejoin the European Union”, without a second #Brexit referendum 👏
English

@GBNEWS Plus an extra 54pence in tax and ni taken from the chump who earned enough to buy the litre of fuel …. So the government gets £1.27 for every litre of fuel bought- pretty clear the government could help the country

English

@JeremyVineOn5 I voted Remain but the vote went the other way. No to rejoining in my view
English

@grahamstuart I work and pay taxes. So the message from our government is tough , cough up and pay whatever the decide to charge us. Thanks for nothing

@coyleneil As someone else wrote “This is the equivalent of pissing on someone after setting them on fire and expecting a thank you.” Your party is destroying the hospitality sector in double quick time and now throwing some scraps and expecting a fanfare!

Labour intervening to support young people - and employers - is welcome news.

How ironic that, in an attempt to be relatable, Mr McFadden admits that the restaurant where he was a dishwasher has “shut quite recently”.
Labour is wilfully destroying hospo.
This latest initiative is complete nonsense.
How disappointing to see Tom Kerridge anywhere near this.

"It’s an amazing scheme and I’m fully behind it" Tom Kerridge spoke to Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden to discuss changes to the Youth Guarantee - including a foundation apprenticeship for the hospitality industry ow.ly/sT5050YuEnA

@Sacha_Lord They do not give a toss. I swear they want to burn hospitality to the ground so they can rebuild and look good near the next election. They seem to want to take all the Covid help back in taxes in one parliament which is just not possible. @RachelReevesMP is clueless
English

@EdwardJDavey Utter nonsense and weak leadership…. Petrol rises 6% government gets upset… heating oil rises 155% and anyone who is vulnerable gets help the rest can rot
English

Really hope PM will announce a cap on heating oil costs, but everyone needs help too - no family can afford a £500 hike in July.

“If you depend on heating oil, you don’t get to choose when you fill up.”
Families across rural areas are facing sharp price rises.
After hearing from residents I raised this with ministers, questioned the Chancellor and sent evidence to Treasury minister Lord Livermore.
Support has now been announced.

Heating oil prices have surged for many rural households.
Dozens of residents wrote to me about the sudden jump in costs.
I raised it with ministers, questioned the Chancellor and met Treasury minister Lord Livermore.
The Government has now announced support.

@RadiumChaser @patmcfaddenmp This is the best response I have seen in a nutshell. Well Done 👏👏👏

@patmcfaddenmp This is the equivalent of pissing on someone after setting them on fire and expecting a thank you.
Everything this Labour government does is constructed this way. It's horrid.

Announced today:
£3k Youth Jobs Grant for employers who take on a young person unemployed for 6 months;
£2k bonus for SMEs taking on a young apprentice;
Extension of long term unemployed jobs guarantee to 22-24 yr olds.
Giving hope and opportunity to young people 🌹
The Labour Party@UKLabour
This Labour Government is cleaning up the mess the Conservatives left and is getting young people back into jobs and apprenticeships.
English

@UK_Needs_Reform Compared this to cooking at home or getting a takeaway cheaper at home, hotter, and doesn’t go missing from the kitchen to the dining table. Involves less people to mess it up. Damn right we should produce our own
English

🇬🇧⛽ Should the UK produce more of its own fuel again?
Across the country, energy policy is becoming a major topic of debate. Some voices argue that increasing domestic production — including using resources from the North Sea — could strengthen energy security, support jobs, and reduce reliance on imports. Others believe the priority should be accelerating the transition to renewable energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels altogether.
Supporters of domestic production say producing fuel locally could help stabilize supply and protect the economy during global energy shocks. Critics counter that long-term investment should focus on clean energy, efficiency, and sustainable alternatives.
⚖️ The issue raises an important question about the future of the UK’s energy strategy: balance between energy independence, affordability, jobs, and climate goals.
💬 What do you think?
👍 YES – The UK should produce more of its own fuel.
❤️ NO – Focus on renewables and move away from fossil fuels.

English

@PeterStefanovi2 £53 million help for the 155% price rises in heating oil. Only for the ‘vulnerable’ - middle earners suck it up and pay for the rest in taxes - no clue no care
English

@BBCBreakfast Hilarious You couldn’t make this up! So they destroy the hospitality sector which employed a high number of 18-25 year olds and have lost 110k plus jobs only to now say you are rescuing them 🤦♂️ 🛎️ ends

Companies are to be paid grants to hire more young people under new government proposals to tackle youth unemployment.

@stumat @MartinSLewis Was 56p and shot up to £1.43 - approximately 155% rise when fuel has risen by less than 6%
English

@MartinSLewis He talks about supporting working people then says it's to help vulnerable people. Not on benefits we have seen a 70% rise in heating oil, so are we now vulnerable or just working people who can fend for ourselves?
