NEWS: @MayorBowser has issued an emergency order reinstating MPD's power to declare 8 p.m. teen curfew zones. The order will remain in effect until June 6. She's used these 15-day emergency orders in the past when the emergency law lapsed (as it did in mid-April).

Accountability and opportunity must go hand in hand. Janeese Lewis George voted against giving DC a curfew tool to respond to youth gatherings that have, at times, erupted into violence. And when the Council had the opportunity to extend rec center hours, she shut it down, choosing politics over our youth. As Mayor, I won’t tolerate this kind of disorder, and I’ll make sure our young people have safe, constructive places to go.

Endorsements from a Maryland interloper who hasn't lived in DC in almost 30 years. I get the name recognition and him being so Uptown but this appeals more to people who spend their time in strip malls in Charles County. Maybe G can go campaign in Upper Marlboro where he lives.

A man who is known for his involvement with the local go-go music scene was sentenced Thursday to 165 years in prison after being convicted in January of child sexual abuse and rape charges in a Prince George's County, Maryland, courtroom. A D.C. woman was arrested in the apartment building where she pays a monthly rent to live in. She told 7News the Channel Square Apartments called police on her after she tried to teach tenants about their rights. Tenants told 7News they feel this is retaliation for their reports and complaints about conditions inside.
