Becoming successful is not luck. It’s math. If your probability of success is 1/100 and you try 100 times, you have a 100% chance of success.

Before AI coding tools people wrote bad code slowly. Now people write bad code at 40x speed and it takes them the same amount of time to fix it because there is 40x more of it.

Cut Datadog bill from $9k to $2.1k without losing visibility. - Dropped metrics with zero dashboards or alerts - Sampled traces at 20% instead of 100% - Moved logs to S3 archive after 3 days Observability cost is a dial. Most teams never turn it.

A client's monitoring tool sent 1,200 alerts in a week. Engineers started ignoring all of them. The tool wasn't the problem. Alert quality was. A monitoring system that cries wolf is worse than no monitoring. It trains your team to look away.

"We'll add monitoring after launch" is the deployment equivalent of "we'll add seatbelts to the car after we figure out if people like driving it."

Nobody wants to admit that half of what gets labeled "technical debt" is just bad decisions that were obvious at the time and approved in a meeting anyway.

RIP Scott Adams. Adams went on to a second chapter in politics, he will be forever missed. My favorite Dilbert exchange: “I’m afraid my son may lose his job to a robot.” “Ma’am, I’ve met your son. He could be replaced by a hammer.” Moral: learn to build the robot—or be good with a hammer.
