@primetimeMitch As bad as that call was (and it was pretty bad), go rewatch the delay of game call on STB after hey layup made it a four-point game. SC clearly takes ball out of bounds and drops it (without contact) inbounds.

Oct 11, 2001. 5-0 Maryland on the road. Playing a ranked team on national TV. 5 seconds left, down 3. Enter Nick Novak. Kid was 4 for 11 on FGs. Had never hit one beyond 33 yds. From 46, there was no way. For young MD fans, this should be required viewing. Still gives me chills.

The Rivera challenge was bad. Cost them 40 seconds of time for the offense at the end. It was before a 3rd and 1 when they had it rolling...total waste. Think a lot of the remaining games are going to look a lot like this one except against upper tier teams. (Philly, SF, Dallas).

At an AAU event today I walked away from a game because the parents sitting near me were brutal to listen to. So that means their daughters lost the opportunity to be recruited. That’s unfortunate.

Can't overstate how detrimental that exchange is for Maryland. Had the lead w/chance to extend it going into half. Went conservative, 3-and-out. Seemed poised for a stop, Corum takes it to the house on 4th down. Big opportunity lost, momentum sapped. Michigan gets ball first.

As I write this, Fran O'Hanlon is announcing his retirement at the end of this season after coaching Lafayette for 27 years. My column on him will be up shortly. Terrific coach, better person. Lafayette will miss him and so will college basketball.
