I've started learning Egyptian hieroglyphs using this excellent book. Now, and this is my observation, not from the book, it seems to me that ancient Egyptian writing is like emoji writing. What do I mean by this? Instead of spaces after words written with letters, they use definition hieroglyphs. I call them emojis. Here's a modern example resembling Egyptian writing: LNDN🏙️ This represents the city of London. Letters first, then a determinator emoji that helps us to know this is actually a city. LNDN-city. (Oh yes, there are no vowels in the Egyptian alphabet.) So how would I write "Marcell goes to London"? MRCLL👱🏻‍♂️G✈️LNDN🏙️ Fortunately, there are not many actual letters in Egyptian writing, about ~50. Once you learn these, which isn't impossible, the remaining 7-800 symbols are all like emojis. You don't need to learn the emojis individually; you can look them up as needed. Yes, I know there are double and triple letters, but so what? In Hungarian, we have about 10 double letters, and I can still read and write in Hungarian. It's learnable. The rest are emojis. May Dunning and Kruger be with you 🤣
