Oh, one last thing: With regards to campaigning, Harris did everything right, and Trump did everything wrong. What this election shows is that we have to work twice as hard to keep up with Trump supporters and three times as hard to overcome them. His base is THAT solid.

@L3ftyOwl2 The “populist” rhetoric on immigration, transgender rights and Gaza is all about hating them By “better,” you mean “worse for them”?

@joshsteich Look who just won. Trump's populism (however wrong it is) mobilized his voter base as well as disaffected centrists. If Kamala had similar rhetoric, i think she would have done better.

I think the rest of the world just has to realise the US we thought we all knew probably just doesn't exist and hasn't for a while. We need to shift our assumptions and look at the US in the same way we look at India.

@DiRico_Rants I disagree. Harris could have done way better on immigration, trans rights and Gaza. If she had used the momentum from Biden's stepping down and used more populist rhetoric instead of going back to Bush era politics, she would have done way better

@whstancil You should keep telling people who are struggling to afford groceries that they are just imagining things and that economy is best it's ever been, Will

Yes: economic dissatisfaction ultimately reflects the domination of the information environment by the right wing (and antisocial sentiment more generally), rather than real economic conditions, which are better than most voters have ever lived through.
Jeff Stein@jstein_star

Roughly *67%* of voters rated the economy as "not so good/poor," per Washington Post exit polls A shockingly poor number amid a hot labor market, booming stocks, much lower inflation, growing GDP But widespread voter dissatisfaction w/ the economy been clear for years

It might be time to admit Hillary Clinton wasn't a uniquely bad candidate, but Trump is in fact uniquely hard to beat for some godforsaken reason

@constans @Christo77309767 It would be helpful if democrat-aligned op-ed writers didn't pretend the inflation wasn't real and acknowledged that its impacts are cummulative. Its less bad than an 08 style recession, but it bad and people are hurting because of it.

Wow. This could be big. Early turnout suggests Jill Stein is winning a massive share of voters who have set up GoFundMes to escape toxic roommate situations

Over the next 48 hours, some of you will treat predictors who said 52/48 like gods and predictors who said 48/52 like morons, and I want to say in advance how deeply I hate you.

@constans Counterpoint: My mom is retiring now after ~20 years of being a "lecturer" (what her U calls adjuncts, basically) & has a decent pension & healthcare bc they were unionized & willing to strike Even if she never got the respect & position she deserved, it wasn't a bad career

I’m an adjunct. I have a full time job and I adjunct because I’m good at teaching and I like making extra money. If you’re adjuncting because you think it will lead to a full time faculty position, you are wrong and need to quit now & get a full time job.
caesararum, BS, DOGS@caesararum

a major gripe i have with US higher ed is probably one you haven't thought of so, adjuncts adjunct professors used to be roles open for e.g. people who were career professionals who wanted to give back by teaching a class or two in their spare time
