For all the talk about CEO “authenticity”… There’s not a week that goes by that I don’t read a piece “written” and signed by a business / community leader that is (almost) as well crafted as something my Father, a 12x best-selling author & award winning journalist, might have penned. While speechwriters are a necessary and accepted part of politics, I’m not sure that also goes for Op-Ed ghosting. Surely these leaders didn’t all Major in English or Creative Writing at University. The media knows who writes the PM’s speeches, for example, but this unspoken / murky trend of (I assume) laid-off journalists ghosting the “opinions” of my peers is new territory. On the bright side, it creates lucrative work for brilliant writers who’ve suffered due to changes in the newspaper business. Perhaps that outweighs the preposterousness of it all. Or maybe it doesn’t matter, as it makes for a better product for readers.
