The Eucharist is Jesus. Not His symbol but Jesus. Symbols don't bleed.

Catholics do not go to Mass because it is “inspiring.” We go because Jesus Christ is there. Body. Blood. Soul. Divinity. The same Jesus born in Bethlehem. The same Jesus crucified on Calvary. The same Jesus risen from the tomb. On every altar. At every Mass. Still giving Himself for the life of the world. This is why the Eucharist is not a symbol. It is the beating Heart of the Catholic faith.

All Catholic doctrine is rooted in interpretation of scripture, and consistently across the world and through the ages, and through a holistic approach to the scriptures that respects the content and unity of the entire canon of the inspired word. Sorry you weren’t taught the biblical underpinnings of Catholic doctrine. I wasn’t either, growing up during a time when Catholic catechesis was weak. But fortunately I encountered amazing teachers later. So sorry my brother, it’s not “the word” versus “the Catholic Church”, it’s novel, modern-day interpretation of scripture versus ancient ones handed down with consistency and refined precision through the ages. Study Church history and you will find a Church whose configuration and practices were unquestionable Catholic with little resemblance to today’s Protestantism (including a ministerial priesthood, a hierarchy of deacons/priests/bishops, deference to the episcopate in Rome, worship centered around the Eucharistic offering of Christ’s body and blood on an altar), and amazing ancient homilies by her greatest theologians which go into great scriptural detail explaining the efficacy of the Mass and the Sacraments, the Trinity and hypostatic union, the perpetual virginity of Mary, etc.

When I ask audiences about how many are former RC's, about 1/4 to 1/3 normally raise their hands (more back East). Rome continues to rupture members, but, they like to pretend otherwise. And, of course, when people come out of Rome they talk about conversion to Christ, to the Gospel. When people convert to Rome they talk about conversion to...Rome, to the "Church." It is a striking contrast.

Can confirm. My church is currently filled with ex-Roman Catholics with identical testimonies.

I will never attack a Christian on the basis of the theological belief that Jesus Christ is God, the Messiah, that He was crucified, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. We are united in that, and that is what matters most. However, the discussion of religious authority and what it means for political discourse is separate from that. We are one in Christ, and anyone who tells a Catholic, or any professing Christian for that matter, who believes in the core theological truths of Christianity, that they are not a Christian, is wrong.

I grew up southern Baptist. Spent 17 years of my life in church 3 times a week. Have read the Bible front to back more times than most pastors. Became an agnostic pagan for 20 odd years. Reopened the Bible when I was hired to cowrite a book on biblical masculinity (became a huge success). Became Catholic that same year. Reading the Bible and finally understanding it always leads home to Rome.
James Baird@james_d_baird

and when Catholics learn to read, they become Protestant! when i ask converts why they left Rome (100s at my church), the universal answer is: “I read the Bible”

Can anyone recommend a Protestant podcaster who offers an apologia of our theology against Catholic theology who is a clear creationist—six days, global flood? I know there are some who do this who are local flood, symbolic creation type of people and I’m not interested in them. If it’s someone, for example, who would promote Biologos and Francis Collins or work with Biologos, I don’t want that guy. Is there anyone like this?

I am not trying to make my Catholic friends, who I love, angry with this statement. But this entire episode is starting to explain to me why so many Americans were concerned about a Catholic president for so long. I have no interest in Rome trying to dictate American policy. And if it continues to loudly make its opinions heard on our foreign policy, I believe they’re going to find a lot of American Protestants feeling a lot less ecumenical than we have been in the more recent past.

Shroud of Turin Real or fake in your opinion. I believe it’s fake… I could be wrong of course but this leads me to believe it’s not real. 👇🏻 Isaiah 52:4 Just as there were many who were appalled at him— his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness— Would love your opinions on it!
