Trump eased sanctions on Iran who America is currently at war with, and also eased sanctions on Russia, who is helping Iran and also at war with Ukraine who America is helping.
Please try and make sense of that.

@marklevinshow The US wants a ceasefire so they can re-arm because they are running low.
Iran doesn't want that because they have plenty of missiles. They want PEACE. And END to the war. US and Israel are desperate like Ukraine. Same BS ceasefire playbook.

Of course, the Iranian regime wants a ceasefire. Every losing regime and army would like a ceasefire. But a ceasefire is not unconditional surrender. It's not a surrender at all. Just saying.

@jpinto37 @bonchieredstate 65% represents total US defence spending in relation to other countries total defence spending. It does not represent the total the US spends on NATO, which was the claim in the original post.

Ah, yes, "fine by us" while the United States pays for 65% of NATO's defense spending despite the benefits almost exclusively applying to Europe.
And what you guys do have that's worth anything is mostly U.S. tech.
So yeah, good luck. Europe deserves to be left hanging.

Trump threatens to quit NATO because allies won’t join his war on Iran. Most of NATO’s other 31 members are quietly thinking: fine by us. Because what exactly do we share with Trump’s America right now? This is a country that threatened to annex a NATO ally’s territory and called its biggest trade partner an enemy. Abandoned Ukraine to save face with Putin. Imposed tariffs on the people it calls friends. Declared ideological war on European values. And now wants NATO to fight Israel’s battles in the Middle East. Trump’s America does not believe in alliances. It believes in leverage. It does not believe in rules. It believes in deals. It does not believe in the liberal order it built. It is actively dismantling it. NATO was never built for this. It was built on the assumption that the biggest threat came from outside the alliance. That assumption no longer holds.

@Jimrob_north @bonchieredstate You missed my point. If US went to the aid of NATO - our entire military establishment would be available. That % is much more than our individual contribution to NATO.

This is throwing the baby outwith the bath water Andrew. We mustn’t do anything like this until and unless we have all the requisite capabilities to replace those we are asking the US to remove. Its is also tantamount to a rejection of the core principle of NATO, and expecting an immature, multi-polar Europe do what NATO currently does. We may not agree with US strategy, but it’s theirs nevertheless.

The correct answer is to follow France, Spain and Italy’s example in regard to use of airspace, and issue notice on Lakenheath, Mildenhall, etc. It is time to take the Americans at their word. We cannot entrust any part of our defences to the USA.

@bonchieredstate They don't. The 65% figure is based on total defence spending of all of the countries in NATO, not money that is spent on the defence of NATO.
Of the NATO shared defence budget, the US contributes 15-16%.

@zerohedge The primary reason Washington underwrites European security is to guarantee unhindered global power projection. If they start restricting base access for out-of-area operations, the US is just subsidizing a wealthy continent's welfare state.
