@wright96d Not me personally, but I know the great team in charge of the look and grade. Amazing people, and they used some of my tools or tools I am involved with for this one and last year's.

I paid extra money to, in part, watch the halftime show in HDR, so why was that clearly SDR converted to HDR. As soon as it ended and showed the Apple TV bumper it was clearly actual HDR.

@wright96d It wasn't an SDR LUT, they had the ability to do "normal" HDR. HDR is just a container, probably just wanted the SDR and HDR to look similar. Most HDR needs a lot of finesse. Most big shows don't do live grade and given previous shows they landed on this look.

@jpznext It was definitely a grading decision. It's very warm in a way the rest of the game wasn't. I don't know that I would agree the HDR was consciously dropped as a creative decision, I do think they just used an SDR grading LUT.

@wright96d The previous years were totally at night with a lot more possibilities of controlled lighting so it's easier to push the HDR container. Its crazy impressive how much control that team has taken for live. That also means that not everyone is gonna like it. Seems like many did

@wright96d It was a creative decision , it's the same team as last year's and The Beyonce's December Half Time. HDR doesn't always have to be pingy. But I do know that there was a lot of variables given that it was during sunset, the overall light was a lot brighter at the beginning.

@sdw @saradietschy the crazy thing is that color management in iOS and macOS are slightly different , and its likely that Apple doesn't change any of this any time soon. They have a good reason for it but its a nightmare for all creators, there are way to make everyone happy

If the color on your exports don't look the same as in Davinci Resolve and your on Mac remember these settings: 👉🏻Project Settings > Color Management > Timeline color space > Rec.709-A 👉🏻Output color space > Same as timeline 👉🏻Preferences > System > Check "Use 10-bit precision in viewers" & "Use Mac display color profiles for viewers"

@saradietschy Also Timeline colorspace normally should be the log space you are grading in, its not the end of the world but some tools like the HDR wheels and other color aware tools need this. Also the other thing is that the output CST should be set to gamma 2.4 .

@wright96d @IceSolst Probably easier in terms of reducing number of values , but probably not the best to preserve the image details .It would compress things without knowing the relationship of adjacent values which is how we can balance both issues .

@IceSolst I wonder if this makes them easier or harder to compress. And what they would look like if you crunched it into a tiny JPG and then undid the sort.

I'm counting days until I can confidently convert most of my photo archive to JPEG XL lossy DNGs. 10 years of archives will suddenly fit on drives that currently only hold 1 year.

@stalman @Terradude66 I think eventually that should be fixed, right now I have been having issues just because libraw can't read it, so I can only use apple raw for them , or adobe . For most people it's probably fine

@Terradude66 @stalman Try it, I am talking about the tiny dng vs adobe conversion . You can unpack the files using something like libraw or apple raw filter to compare

@stalman @jpznext Don’t think I do. The file format is still DNG using the JPEGXL compression algorithm, so if DNG is available, it should be able to be read and opened. I think having Apple and Samsung embracing it in their raw formats gives greater scope than just Canon, Sony or NIKON.

@Terradude66 @stalman The issue is that adobe it's using an old version of jpgxl and also deciding to compress the demosaiced image , but tools like "tinydng" solve both, the main issue it has is that currently there is no way to convert it back to non-jpgxl.

@stalman I understand that mosaic information is stripped from the metadata. That means that raw noise (ie Lightroom and DxOraw) reduction can no longer be run on the files. I’m thinking of doing it on archived files, after noise reduction is run

I think DJI D-Log M should not be labeled as a log encoding. While it does record in a wider color space (Rec.2020) and 10-bit depth, it is more of a display-referred gamma, with less contrast. It would be much better named something like D-Cine or something to avoid confusion.

@restlesspix @CryptoAntonioni The others in this chart are: -Some Filmconvert profiles that I grew attached to and spat out as LUTs (with some modifications) a while back. -Some of the component parts of FilmUnlimited -Film Look Creator (a few specific tools in there that I like) -Voyager LUTs
