@politicstcan @NikLynam The jets simply cannot send a single draft pick or young player away to get better now. Want to hang on to the current core? Fine, but this team has to be accumulating future assets. This roster will never win a Stanley cup without major surgery, and it ain't happening.

@NikLynam Looking at recent rebuilds that have started from almost nothing and spam acquired assets...not sure it's been great! But you would actually have to play young players more either way, which the Jets refuse to do

During the 2021 playoffs, the Montreal Canadiens swept the Winnipeg Jets. They went on to lose in the Stanley Cup finals. In November of 2021, Bergevin was fired just months after such an appearance. Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton were hired to change directions. A rebuild commenced In 2026 they find themselves in the ECF and more playoff series’ won between 2022-2026 than Winnipeg Montreal has only missed the playoffs in 1 more season than Winnipeg in that span Something to consider when leaning on the President’s Trophy as this groups true hope for more.

The Buffalo Sabres have scratched Logan Stanley for most of this second round of the playoffs against Montreal. It must be bc they aren’t happy with his play. I wonder if Winnipeg media, who praised his play all season, really know what they are talking about.

@travisyost Dustin Byfuglien was the only player who understood this - even did it successfully while killing a 5 on 3 once, the opposing team was so baffled by the 5 on 2 they didnt even get a shot IIRC.

Here is the entire list of defencemen drafted in the 1st or 2nd round in the 2010s who have hit 100+ NHL games without having established themselves as full-time NHLers by their D+5 (age 22) season. "Defencemen take longer" is cope.
