Iran executed the 19-year-old champion, Saleh Mohammadi for protesting the Khamenei regime. Nothing from Greta Thunberg, Gary Lineker, Charlotte Church, sectarian Muslim politicians. No hunger strikes on University campuses. Where have all the “human rights” activists gone?

Labour’s attack on jury trials is the biggest assault on English liberty — especially free speech — in over 800 years. It will fundamentally alter our constitution. What Labour is proposing is a sinister betrayal of both its own traditions and centuries of legal heritage. None of Labour’s great leaders — Attlee, Wilson, Callaghan — would have dreamed of such an act of constitutional vandalism. Yet David Lammy appears all too willing to strip away this fundamental right. He plans to press ahead regardless, despite warnings from some of the country’s leading legal minds that these reforms will undermine trust in the criminal justice system — and despite there being no evidence they will work. In fact, the Institute for Government estimates the changes would save just 2% of Crown Court time — not the 20% claimed. The Government is hellbent on rushing this through Parliament. For context, MPs were given as much time to debate this as the Salmon Act 1986 — which made it an offence to handle salmon in suspicious circumstances. Meanwhile, the real issue is being ignored: more than 64 Crown courtrooms sit empty on working days — around 12% of the total across England and Wales. We must fight for our culture and remain a Christian Country. It’s essential that we bother to go out and vote for politicians that have this country’s best interest at heart. Not those that are obsessed with issues elsewhere.

Karl Marx gave humanity its most murderous idea: that human suffering stems not from scarcity and the human condition, but from private property itself. This bearded parasite—who never worked a day in his life and lived off Engels' textile fortune—convinced generations that voluntary exchange was exploitation while violent redistribution was justice. The body count speaks for itself. Stalin's forced collectivization murdered 6 million Ukrainians through engineered famine. Mao's Great Leap Forward killed 45 million through sheer economic illiteracy. Pol Pot slaughtered a quarter of Cambodia's population. And every single time, the intellectuals proclaimed it "wasn't real socialism." The pattern is identical across continents and centuries: seize private property, centrally plan production, watch millions starve. But the intellectual foundation was always rotten. Marx's labor theory of value—the notion that labor alone creates value—was already debunked by Austrian economists like Böhm-Bawerk before the ink was dry on Das Kapital. Value is subjective, determined by individual preferences in voluntary exchange. Marx simply couldn't grasp that the capitalist performs the crucial function of time preference—sacrificing present consumption for uncertain future returns. Even "democratic socialism" in Western Europe required massive wealth transfers from productive individuals to bureaucratic parasites, creating permanent dependency classes and stagnating growth. Venezuela had the world's largest oil reserves and still managed to create toilet paper shortages. Cuba turned a Caribbean paradise into a floating prison where doctors flee on rafts. Every socialist experiment ends the same way: empty shelves, secret police, and intellectuals explaining why the next attempt will be different.

Elon Musk on the biggest danger of AI and robotics: “I think probably the biggest danger of AI or maybe the biggest danger of AI and robotics going wrong is government People who are opposed to corporations or worried about corporations should really worry the most about government. Government is just a corporation in the limit; it is the biggest corporation with a monopoly on violence The government could potentially use AI and robotics to suppress the population. That’s a serious concern” Elon says the real threat is Big Government armed with superintelligence

I asked a simple question. I was interested in which part of it you were disputing. If you denied the schoolteacher part, I could enlighten you. Goodwin wasn't referencing a Daily Mail article. I can't be arsed to read someone else's irrelevant bullshittery around the veracity of a Mail article. How is it you put it? Oh, yes… TLDR. For the record, the document in question here, "Sharing the Journey" was the work of exclusively Labour councils. Similar, broader guidance has indeed been offered elsewhere before, and indeed has been offered in Tory run councils, but they're hardly any better anyway. Hardly relevant to Goodwin's point, and in any case he is hardly a fan of the Tories. The description of such documents as mere guidance shows a woeful naïvety about the reality of how this stuff goes, especially in a sector where around only a fifth of employees are not left-leaning. You think this leftist-prepared "guidance" is going to be ignored in the hands of schools? If people of faith can't participate in a secular curriculum due to their superstitions, they should not attend the school and would perhaps feel more at home in a society more in line with their brand of woo. The emphasis on amending a curriculum to be sensitive for an array of nonsense, foreign beliefs, is arse-backwards. If art, music, and dance offends, go somewhere you won't be offended. Thank Allah my kids have all finished their schooling and are free of this crappery!

Welcome to the UK. Where 5 years after a schoolteacher was chased out of town by “offended” Muslims local councils in the very same area are now warning that children’s drawings of religious figures could be considered blasphemous. We are losing our freedoms.

Labour’s Islamophobia definition will suppress free speech even more than we expected. This Government hasn’t had many achievements — but the one thing it does seem good at is eroding our right to free speech. This week, the Communities Secretary published the long-awaited official definition of Islamophobia — now repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility” — and announced a new Islamophobia tsar. While the Secretary of State claimed it will not have a chilling effect on free speech, it is blindingly obvious that it will. Within 45 minutes of announcing the definition, pro-Gaza independent MP Iqbal Mohamed asked whether it could be incorporated into the Seven Principles of Public Life, which all MPs, as public servants, are expected to abide by. He was essentially asking whether MPs could be sanctioned for their speech in the House if it were deemed to be “anti-Muslim hostility”. Rather than remind the MP that everything said in the House of Commons and House of Lords is protected by parliamentary privilege, the Secretary of State said Iqbal was “right to point to the huge concern we should all share” about parliamentarians being “Islamophobic”. That will silence debate on matters such as the grooming gangs scandal and Islamist extremism. Following the publication of the definition, the Muslim Women Network UK issued a statement welcoming it and signalling how busy the new tsar will be. It read: “Approximately 4,000 incidents are reported annually and as 80 per cent are not reported, the actual figures are more likely to be 20,000 hate crime incidents. These numbers do not even include discrimination in the workplace or when accessing services.” We should probably point out that Baroness Gohir — who was a member of the now infamous Working Group tasked with drafting the definition — runs this organisation. She may well have her eyes on the new role as the “anti-Muslim hostility tsar”. While the definition is non-statutory, once it is adopted by public bodies it will likely be enforced zealously. It will become the new non-crime hate incident (NCHI). Even without an official definition, we effectively already had a cultural definition of Islamophobia. Employees across many sectors — as well as university students — are already closely monitored for the slightest signs of “Islamophobia”. Things will only get worse. The Free Speech Union currently has at least a dozen open cases involving members who’ve said something Muslims have taken offence at. Let’s be honest: this is a Muslim blasphemy law via the back door — 18 years after Parliament voted to abolish such laws. The Free Speech Union is launching a legal challenge against the Government’s decision because we believe it is unlawful. This is one of the most important fights we’ve taken on in our six-year existence. Labour was elected in July 2024 with an overriding promise to accelerate economic growth. We now now have its record for its first full calendar year, 2025: Q1: 0.7% Q2: 0.2% Q3: 0.1% Q4: 0.1% So, far from stimulating the economy, the dead hand of Starmer-Reeves has knocked the stuffing out of it. They took a good start to the year and squandered it with reckless tax, spend and borrow (none of which was in their manifesto). Our giant services sector — 2nd biggest in the world — is stagnating. Construction is in its worst state for over 4 years, with output down 2% in Q4 (which is why Labour’s promise of 1.5m new houses by 2029 is already broken). As for GDP per capita, which was very popular among X tweeters under the Tories but not so much now (I wonder why), it fell for the second quarter in a row — so we’re effectively in a GDP/capita recession.

It has already begun. Children’s drawings could be blasphemous under Islamic law, say Labour councils in the north of England. Guidance issued to teachers by Labour councils warns that images made by pupils in art lessons could be seen as “idolatrous” under sharia law. The advice also warns that music and dance classes could be contrary to the teachings of Islam. Teachers have been advised in the guidance titled “Sharing the Journey” that “for some Muslim parents, sensitivities may exist in connection with the teaching of aspects of art, dance, drama, music, physical education, religious education and RSHE.” It goes on to say: “It is very important that the school understands this and is also careful not to ask its students to reproduce images of Jesus, the Prophet Mohammed or other figures considered to be prophets in Islam. Some Muslim pupils may not wish to draw the human figure.” On top of this ridiculous and censorious guidance, the Government this week announced its official definition of “anti-Muslim hostility” — effectively a Muslim blasphemy law. In a free society, no religion should be shielded from legitimate criticism and challenge — let alone by children. This is sick and sinister. Read more below 👇

Failing to see the relevance. Apart from Nazi ≠ fascist (that's beyond schoolboy levels of understanding though), all statist doctrines of the far left and far right are deplorable. If you decorate yourself with a swastika on the one hand or a hammer and sickle on the other, you're scum. But West Germany was not a fascist regime, despite the claims of the socialists on the other side of the Wall. Anyone with a modicum of knowledge of Germany history would know the real reason the fluffy socialist regime of the GDR built the wall was to stop the brain drain of its best people. "You will enjoy socialism… under pain of death!"

It is only Tuesday, and this Government has already announced an official definition of Islamophobia, an Islamophobia tsar, and plans to push ahead today with restricting our ancient right to trial by jury — all of which will stifle free speech in this country. This is not governing in the national interest. What we are seeing is an attempt to reintroduce Britain’s blasphemy laws, 18 years after they were abolished by Parliament, and the biggest assault on English liberty — particularly free speech — in over 800 years. This Government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and more bullish in its open disdain for free speech. The fight for free speech has never been more important than it is today.

I've inevitably been pushed to the right of politics because of the insanity of the left, but I don't get this either. It cuts both ways though. Many other fellow early EV adopters naturally assumed I shared their group-think across a number of issues, which tells you that some people don't think things through from first principles, but just rent their opinions wholesale. Some obvious exceptions to this matter on EVs though, including Elon Musk — the nemesis of hand-wringing leftists. I never got how better, more efficient tech (the key motivator for me) should be considered "woke", but it's inevitably wrapped up in the Net Zero stuff.

Find it bewildering that so many on right pathologically oppose electric vehicles (because woke). They are just a vastly superior technology. And will only get better & cheaper. But instead of a strategy re actual EV adoption in this country we get - of course - Boomerslop.
