Today isn't the happiest or the saddest day of my life. But it feels like the most important. I kept my promise to the best girl there ever was 🥰 🙏

@NiallHarbison You do amazing work with the dogs and the way you tell the stories about each one is just brilliant. Good luck with the shows and just be yourself 😊

Confidence is a strange thing and we’re all meant to have it. On social media, real life and even just meeting friends or going to work. I’ve lost mine in the last 2/3 months. I don’t mind saying that as I always like being honest. It’s not a case of being sad or depressed. It’s just a complete lack of confidence in my ability to do things. I’ve been thinking how to word it but I guess tennis players, singers, business leaders and movie stars all have confidence come and go. More importantly all us normal people have the same issue. Sometimes we believe in ourselves 100% but other times we are riddled with self doubt. My problem is I have to put a brave face on for… 🐕 All the team at @wearehappydoggo on a daily basis 📕 Publishing a book next month 📱 Posting here to people here online 🎤 Interviews and talks 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 All the people I meet who want to talk now in real life I know I’m good at looking after and saving dogs. I also know people like the videos and stories online. I don’t doubt myself on those 2 things and they are important. It’s just everything else. And it’s not always like this but at the moment it is. I know it sounds silly but a guy in a fancy restaurant in Dublin looked at my clothes and scoffed. I have a sore back and feel old at the moment. Simple little things are bothering me. My self worth is low. But bigger things too. Like who am I to say I can lead a global mission if helping dogs? What can I say to 500 people in London who have paid to come see my talk? How can I possibly lead an international charity? I’m just not confident at the moment but I have to be on so many fronts from the moment I wake up until bedtime. It’s probably easy to look at me and think I don’t have a worry in the world talking online. But there’s a mask. Behind it I feel very low on confidence in myself and my ability and my worth. I’m not fishing for compliments cause I get enough but that’s just how I feel. It will change soon I hope. Im sure people in every walk of life relate. We all put our best smile on sometimes and pretend we are perfect for the world to see. But often we are not. It’ll click back soon for the dogs. Take care ❤️

I believe what you are experiencing is Imposter Syndrome. It’s quite common with creative types, and also with very humble people who find themselves in charge of people, organizations, and movements. Particularly so when it’s a position where you’re admired. Please know that this is a reflection of your innate humility rather than an inability to rise to the occasion. That humility is one of the things that makes you so very effective at what you do. We love you, Niall. Hang in there.

We might get another day or we might even get a couple of weeks. I’ve no shame in saying I was wrong last week when I thought it was his time. We all did. Big Mac had other ideas. Life in the old dog yet 🥰🙏 (6/6)

On Friday night we got the bad news from the vet that Big Mac wouldn’t make it. It was time to go. Well I’m unbelievably happy to say everybody was wrong. You won’t believe Bog Mac today… (1/6) 🧵

Yesterday Alba passed away. My dog Hank also only knew her for 2 weeks but he made her life so much better as her best friend. It’s amazing to watch how he acted. We don’t deserve dogs… (1/7) 🧵

@HeatherLane77 We do feel sorry for lovely Stan but don't take it personally. We know these dogs are usually big softies but some dogs are not always good with others for lots of reasons and could be the reason some owners keep their distance. Hope Stan finds a friend or two soon.

Poor Stan. I’ve taken him to a small dog park several times to try and make friends, and each time the humans see him coming and leave with their dogs. He’s an absolute love bug, I wish people would give him a chance. ☹️

@ju_dean3 It's a good point thank you. The tractor can only go at 9mph so it gives us a better chance to spot wildlife and avoid damage

If you are down or maybe sick and need a lift then this is the story for you. McMuffin is a street dog I found in Thailand hours from death. She had been thrown out in the street to die alone. Yesterday she was paddle boarding in Germany. This is how she made it (1/10) 🧵

Do you know what these pictures are of? These are pictures of you walking past litter in the street and tutting, then going home to sweep up and burn all the leaves so your lawn looks tidy. These are pictures of you complaining to the council that they haven't cut the stinging nettles growing alongside the path you use to walk your children to school. These pictures are the results of our casual disregard for all lives except our own. The first picture actually shows a poo from a hedgehog dying of starvation. Yes, it's a poo. It's made up of just grass and plastic - neither of which she can digest, but they filled her stomach for a while and stopped the pain. The caterpillars that she should be eating didn't survive, because the stinging nettles they were living on were cut down, destroyed, just in case someone got stung. The second picture is a bird's eye view of the starving hedgehog's nest. It's squashed in between the wall and the aircon unit at the back of a pub. It's made of plastic bags and food wrappers. The long grasses and spent foliage it should have been made of were cut down and thrown away, because they looked messy. With no uncut verges, no hedges, no welcoming wild corner of a garden, no where left natural, everything cut, strimmed, tidied, controlled, this was the only place Holly could find. This was where she had her babies. And this was where they would have all died of starvation if not for Chris, the lovely publican who phoned me, voicing his concerns. This little family, all severely malnourished and underweight, are now safe and sound in rescue, thanks to the lovely @pricklelodge . But there are lots of Hollys out there, who don't get noticed. Please, I beg you, leave some of your garden natural. ➡️If cutting the lawn, leave the edges for wildlife. ➡️Pick up litter when you see it. ➡️Write to your council and ask them to stop mowing and strimming and poisoning. ➡️Go into the kitchen now, sort through your cupboards and find a shallow wide dish, like the pyrex lid of a casserole pot, fill it with water and put it out by your front door, and refresh it every evening. ➡️Add kitten biscuits to your weekly shop and put out a dish full each night (see hedgehogcabin.info/feeding and hedgehogcabin.info/making-a-feeder). This tragic tale can have a happy ending, for all the Hollies out there, if we all do our bit to help.
